Annual Picnic
One hundred and twenty RPOA members attended the annual picnic at Fort Largs on Sunday, October 24. The committee had worked hard to arrange the picnic barbecue, but the days success depends on members attending. The RPOA thanks all for being there.
Charlie Rumbelow, Tex Battersby, Karl Faeth and Peter Graham were at there usual epicurial best and presented a most delicious barbecue. Trevor and Marie Bakes ensured that glasses were forever full, and the ladies saw to the salads (which had been prepared by Chef Toni).
President Les Morris welcomed Neil and Pauline McKenzie who represented Mal and Marcia Hyde. Neil spoke to members and recalled times spent with them as workmates. Some wily members kept Neil talking in the lunch queue to enable others to jump the line.
While running events were conspicuous by their absence, members kept fit by walking about renewing old acquaintances. The main event of the day was testing the memory to recall names. If you missed out this year, put the October picnic in your 2000 diary.
Day Bus Tour
The date of the Hindmarsh Island day tour has been changed to Tuesday January 18, 2000, and departs from the Police Club at 9:00am. We travel via Clarendon, Kangarilla and Meadows to Goolwa, where we stop for morning tea. At Signal Point we collect a guide and after crossing on the ferry we enjoy a guided tour of Hindmarsh Island.
We make our way to the South Lakes Golf Course, Goolwa for lunch. At 3:00pm we leave Goolwa for Mt Compass where we make a stop at Protea World. Our journey home will be via Willunga arriving at the clubrooms at approximately 5:00pm. The cost to members is $25, which should be forwarded to Treasurer Ken Phillips no later than December 31. Cory DeWit of Deluxe Travel will be our coach captain.
