Twenty club members returned to the great property at Coonalpyn on a weekend in mid-August. First-time visitor to the property, Ben South - who dropped the presidents Honda - found the two-hour drive worth the effort. On his KTM, Brenton Inglis tested his skills through the wooded sections.
The club hosted its usual weekend camp at the Coorong in mid-September. Treasurer, Dave Roy, and his family were joined by Dave Paxon and son, with several others also attending. This property is always popular for its wide open riding areas, huge sandhills and the nearby fishing beach.
As part of the recent Australian Masters Games in Adelaide, the club ran a control at Mt Crawford Forest for the enduro competition on September 25. Club members Lyn Dunstone, John Ryder and Brenton Inglis entered and all finished the demanding course. The club ran the special test section - which was timed to the second - just out from the start through a forest. About 90 riders entered the event, with slightly fewer completing the course of two laps of about two-and-a-half hours each.
Club members at the control saw riders such as Andy Haydon tear up the course, and veteran riders simply aim to finish and enjoy the day. The club was pleased to participate in this type of event and aims to assist with similar ones in the future.
Four club members and I rode to Phillip Island for the World 500cc Motorcycle Championships on the October long weekend. Members attended the weekend of racing and usual festivities at Cowes Saturday night. The racing was fantastic and worth the journey over. Ken Naesmith and Chuck Parker travelled the Great Ocean Road for the ride back, and took in all the sights on the way.
Lester Martin is again organizing the annual Poker Run through the hills in mid-November. The club will also participate in the annual Toy Run on Sunday, December 12, which leaves from Glenelg. It will end at the Hahndorf oval, and the club will host the usual Christmas barbecue afterwards at the nearby Echunga oval. To participate in this good cause, members should aim to keep the day free.
The World Superbike Championships will be held at Phillip Island next Easter. To watch the event, the club is planning its usual trip to the Island. The following weekend, the club plans to attend Broadford - just the other side of Melbourne - for the Australian round of the World 500cc Motocross Championships. The worlds best dirt riders can be seen in action on a track of natural terrain.
The club will host a State enduro round at Dave Heinrichs Coonalpyn property next June. All club members participation will be required to help run this event, and raise the clubs profile.
