Premier John Olsen has announced the setting up of a task force to examine police staffing levels and other crime-related issues.
The Police Association will be represented on the task force by its president and secretary. The work of the task force will be completed by the end of December.
The announcement follows a Police Association staffing level campaign and extensive negotiations with the government.
The delegates - at their recent conference - were advised that staffing levels were identified in the recently-conducted PASA survey as the major issue of current concern to the membership.
The brief of the task force will be to:
- Go beyond the current policy of recruitment against natural attrition.
- Determine the appropriate staffing level required to return the force to a size which can provide appropriate levels of policing to South Australians.
The task force will necessarily need to address staffing levels in the context of the occupational health and safety of Police Association members - and the public interest.
