AT THE CINEMA

IN DREAMS

It was her dark illustration of childhood fables that lured him, and it was her dreams of deadly premonitions he would come to own. As Claire Cooper (Annette Bening) frantically tries to convince a cynical world of her mind-link with a madman, she realises that she has but one choice. To stop Vivian Thompson (Robert Downy Jr.), she must become him - once and for all.

During her journey into his mind, the silent screams of future victims begin to haunt her dreams. As the visions increase, so too does the need for her psychiatrist (Stephen Rea) and her husband (Aiden Quinn) to heed the warnings of impending tragedy. Too late do they realise that Claire has indeed become Vivian’s mind’s eye.

Opening on August 12, In Dreams is sure to be compelling viewing.

NOTTING HILL - MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE

Movies and Music featured Notting Hill in last month’s Police Journal. The Soundtrack album followed, and it can only add to the romance and warmth of the successful movie. Included among the featured artists are Boyzone, Shania Twain and Elvis Costello, who perform songs from both the past and present. The CD won’t be hard to spot with an alluring picture of Julia Robert gracing the cover.

THE CLASH TRIBUTE - BURNING LONDON

Rock ‘n’ Roll group The Clash are long gone. Surprisingly, however, many music listeners still long for their music. For this reason, the release of Burning London - The Clash Tribute might be long overdue. The CD is compiled in the real spirit of The Clash, with artists who have been truly inspired by the legendary group. There are 14 tracks on the CD, including two bonus tracks for the Australian release.

For the opportunity to win The Clash CD, put your details on the back of a used envelope (but not your postcode) and address it to Mike Horsfall, Sturt Police Station (12) The Clash.

OTHER NEW RELEASES

Many new releases emerged this month but some seemed to be noise for the sake of noise. Others, however, warranted attention. Keep a look-out for the self-titled album by Tal Bachman and a new release, Sixpence None The Richer, a once obscure rock band which hails from Texas. While certainly not new, Ricky Martin’s self-titled album is worth looking at - more for the extra CD that features video footage suitable for the PC than the snappy music.
