The Last Shift

Dear Sir

I am writing to advise of my resignation from the Police Association effective 5 May 1999, this being my last day of service with SAPOL.

To those members with whom I have formed friendships over the years I thank you for the good times, for the laughs and, most of all, for making the job the great one that it is. In particular to the one person whom the job (as well as fate) allowed me to meet, I am eternally grateful. To this end I am in debt to the job for the great people (and experiences) it has presented me.

This is, however, as far as the “debt” goes. To those who make the mind-boggling decisions which constantly affect the “workers” (mostly to their detriment), let me just say that the slate suddenly appears very clean. Part of any job is taking the good with the bad, but when it’s consistently neck-deep and far as the eye can see, it makes it very hard to just smile and take it.

A style of management which is more suited to blind followers than to (mostly) head-working and intelligent professionals, will never result in job satisfaction and/or respectable levels of morale. Sad that personal agendas always take precedence over workers’ welfare.

Nonetheless, it is a great job which offers great experiences and opportunities for those keen to pursue them. Unfortunately I was looking for a career, and since they are on the endangered species list within SAPOL, I feel the need to try other options.

To all members, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and hope that some day things may take a turn for the better in the job. This must surely be the ultimate test for the optimist in us all.

Sincerely
Gavin Roocke.

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective 19 May 1999 due to my retirement.

I appreciate your personal attention in matters incurred by myself over the years, for which I am grateful.

To others, thanks for the good times, to hell with the bad times and good luck to you all in the future.

Neil Hamdorf
Senior Constable
Elizabeth
The Secretary

I hereby tender my resignation from the association due to my resignation from the SA police force effective 31.5.99.

Through the journal I say goodbye to my course-mates (2/85) and all the people I’ve worked with over the past 14 years in Adelaide, Naracoorte, ORG (what great memories), Henley Beach and Port Augusta.

I’ve only been a South Australian for those 14 years but I’ll miss this place - the Barossa, Coonawarra, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, the Hills etc.

I know as I leave Port Augusta and the Flinders Ranges for the last time, I’ll be leaving behind some good friends with whom I was proud to serve - the people of South Australia.

Good luck to you all.

Loretta (Manning) Taylor

Dear Sir

I wish to cease membership from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL on 3 June 1999. I will be continuing my police “career” in Melbourne and will no doubt make use of the Association at VICPOL.

I thank the members of the “old” team 5 at Holden Hill for their help during my time there. It was splendid.

Good luck to the members of course 65; it was good to be a part of such a close-knit team.

Yours faithfully
MR Ramsbottom
Constable 8973/7
Holden Hill Patrols

Dear Peter

I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia effective from 1 July 1999, due to my resignation from the South Australia Police.

I say goodbye to all whom I have had the pleasure of working with over the past 18 years - at Holden Hill Traffic, Prospect police station, Prosecution, and Para Hills patrols - and wish you all well for the future. In particular I thank all the staff I have worked with over the past three years at Holden Hill Local Service Area, Tea Tree Gully Operations Saint Agnes Section and Para Hills Section (or police stations for those who are from the “old school”). It is the people like you in “the job” that make it worthwhile.

Despite the usual complaints, as voiced by fellow members when leaving, I have had an enjoyable time in SAPOL. So much so that I have decided to continue my career with the Queensland Police Service.

I hope for the benefit of those still aspiring to climb the promotional stepladder, that the position I am leaving is at least advertised so as to allow one person to move up one rung to the lofty height of senior constable. No need to thank me - it is my gain.

Yours sincerely
EA Thiel.

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Association as of 2 July 1999, this being my last day of service with SAPOL.

I would like to say TJF but the only hallowed sounds around my place will be FTJ (forget the job).

Sorry if I disappoint some by not making any further comments but thank God we mellow with age, or is it that we just stop banging our heads against the brick walls.

I wish everyone success in the future.

Yours faithfully
TA Carter
Sergeant 1629/2

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective 4 July 1999 due to my retirement from SAPOL.

After a career of 35 years, 30 years with the traffic regions, I leave due to health reasons.

Many thanks, Peter, to you and the Association for your hard work that has brought about the wages and conditions which we have today. I wish you luck for the future.

Yours sincerely
John Elsegood
Senior Constable
