AT THE CINEMA

Notting Hill

Notting HillNotting Hill opened in Adelaide cinemas late last month, but it’s so entertaining it will show for a while yet. Starring Julia Roberts as famous movie star, Anna Scott, and Hugh Grant as the bookshop owner (William), Notting Hill is a romantic comedy that will satisfy even the most critical viewer.

Anna and William have a chance meeting in the bookshop. After a number of accidental meetings and clumsy encounters, they eventually fall in love. While the laughs along the way will easily maintain interest, viewers can also expect to be charmed by the warmth and enchantment of Anna.

The Spy Who Shagged Me

In this new release, Mike Myers makes a comeback appearance as the very eccentric and often over-sexed Austin Powers. He’s the ultimate gentleman spy who, after successfully fighting for the Crown, has come back to protect the Family Jewels.

Together with the enchanting CIA operative, Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham), Austin again fends off a curious assortment of spies, assassins and double agents. This time he’s equipped with a time-travel machine of his own, and he’ll stop at nothing to recover his “mojo”.

Those who have seen the original International Man of Mystery will already know how zany the Austin Powers adventures can become - anyone new should be prepared for a “groovy adventure”. He’s back, baby!

The CraíC - SOUNDTRACK ALBUM

Those who ventured out and saw Jimeoin’s acting debut in The Craíc, will have experienced some great moments of comedy. Between the laughs, most would have been lucky to hear some of the great musical tracks featured in the motion picture. The soundtrack album (released by Festival) is now available.

It features some classic musical pieces including Homosapien (Lavish), and Lucky Number (Lene Lovich). Also on the album are some titles by The Gadflys and a complete remix of Down Under by Colin Hay. Titles by Ricky Edwards are also included and add a Celtic touch to the CD.

MUSHROOM MASTERS

Some of the old rockers will be impressed with two new double CDs released under the Mushroom Masters title. Skyhooks - Their Greatest Hits includes more than 20 hits and eight never-before-released tracks.

For $29.95 the 2CD collection - with all digitally remastered tracks - is a must-have. The heavier old rockers will be pleased with The Angels Greatest Hits - The Mushroom Years. This 2CD pack also retails for $29.95 and features such great tracks as Dogs are Talking, Let The Night Roll On and We Gotta Get Out of This Place. The live tracks are a joy to behold.

FORCES OF NATURE

Another recent motion picture release, Forces of Nature, produced a wonderful soundtrack. Artists included on the album include U2 (Everlasting Love), Propellerheads (Take California) and some excellent tracks from Faithless, including If Lovin’ You Is Wrong. The CD is available now from Universal.

THE BEST OF - KATE CEBERANO

Available now on the Mushroom label, The Best of Kate Ceberano chronicles the career of one of Australia’s great musical talents. From her beginnings in 1984 with her debut single, Trust Me, to her huge success in Jesus Christ Superstar and, more recent release, Pash, Kate Ceberano has shown an enduring talent. As she now pursues an acting career, The Best Of Kate Ceberano may be her last musical release for some time. It’ll be well worth adding to any music collection.

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S OKLAHOMA

The 1947 London premiere of Oklahoma brought some much needed sunshine to post World War II Britain. It began an unbroken nine-year string of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

The 1998 Royal National Theatre recording of this classic has now been released. It’s available in stores now and will probably be suited to the more refined listener. Nonetheless, it’s still great quality music.

For your chance to win the CD put your details (but not your postcode) on the back of a used envelope and address it to Mike Horsfall, Sturt Police Station (12) Oklahoma.
