Impressed With Journal Online

Hi Andy

Just finished paging through the April edition of the Police Journal - online. Nice piece of work. You down-under types are quite professional and comparatively speaking, very dignified. Love the format and ease of access.

Job The Same Everywhere

Andrew Dunn

I discovered your wonderful magazine from an online friend in Police-L. It is a great way to learn what officers in another part of the world do at work and how they think. It also shows me that though we may be miles apart, the job and people are still the same.

Keep up the good work.

Compliments From USA

G’day Andy

May I compliment you on a fine publication and having it available to us on this side of the pond via the internet. Truly a fine example of 20th century technology. I spent about six weeks in your great country in 1997. I met many great people and made many great friends. Keep up the good work, look forward to hearing from you.

Yours in friendship.

Address Country Reliefs As Priority

Dear Andy

While I agree with the concept of the voluntary wearing of name tags by operational members and recognize that some members feel apprehensive about wearing them I cannot help but feel bemused by the whole issue.

As a country-based member there are very few times when a local does not know my name be they villain or otherwise. I would say that not knowing my name would suggest they are not local and maybe they should be wearing the name tag.

All jokes aside, it is unfortunate that staffing has been overtaken by name tags as a priority. I am based at what is supposed to be a two-person station, however, since February 15 this year it appears to have reverted to being a one-person station and is to remain so until at least the end of July due to leave and work cover-related issues.

Needless to say the 3,000-strong population (and myself) felt somewhat confused at this situation with no relief member available. While I appreciate that “back-up” is available from neighbouring stations it does little to alleviate the problem of staffing at what is a busy station.

I am aware that Government has made assurances to increase police numbers - they should be battle-ready in time for my retirement.

I can only reiterate previous and repeated comments by other country members that relieving of country stations is an issue with health and safety implications that needs to be addressed as a priority.
