Club members rest just outside Melbourne after the Phillip Island weekend

Hindmarsh Island

Matt Nairne led about 25 SAPMC members on their first 1999 ride through McLaren Vale on March 14. The group took some great roads, including the Delamere run and continued through to the Hindmarsh Island ferry. Members crossed over to the Island and, overlooking the water, enjoyed a barbecue lunch before returning to Adelaide.

Carters

The club’s first dirt ride for the year was held at the riverside property at Carters near Murray Bridge in late March. About 25 members and some of their children attended the event, which was run by Greg Trickett. Members tested their skills and bikes’ suspension through the property’s open areas and tracks, which run through some tight wooded areas.

Phillip Island

Fifteen club members set out on their annual road ride to the World Superbikes at Phillip Island last April. The group - which included Paula Tracey (firefighter) on a Honda 550 and Lester Martin on a new Honda 1100 Blackbird - began its journey with a day-long ride to Warrnambool.

The journey continued early the following morning along the famous Great Ocean Road to Queenscliff, where riders caught the ferry to San Remo. After arriving at their residence near Cowes on the Island on a Friday evening, they rested their sore bodies.

Members watched the Saturday qualifying and numerous other classes after attending the track. That night they joined the “party” in Cowes, where thousands of party-going bike enthusiasts revelled in the merriment.

Members were entertained by unbelievable riding from the world’s best riders the following morning. Australian rider, Troy Corser, won both races ahead of English rider, Carl Fogarty.

Coorong Campaway

The Easter long weekend was the club’s first campaway on a property at the Coorong. This location offered much to the 25 members who attended, including:

The more experienced riders spent much of the time airborne, which was good viewing.

The club’s first video night was held at the Brecnock Hotel in early May. Also that month was another road ride through the Barossa and the annual weekend for the dirt riders at Coonalpyn.

The club will host various rides throughout this year, for both road and dirt riders. Included will be:

The Sports Federation’s Merv Kowald has approached the SAPMC regarding the bid for the 2005 World Police & Fire Games in Adelaide. I am liaising with him and motorcycling SA with a view to the club hosting motocross and enduro events at ACUSA Park, Nairne.

Queries regarding the SAPMC should be directed to the contacts listed.
