Annual General Meeting
Outgoing president, Mike Powell, presided over the AGM on March 23. The most important item on the agenda was the election of office bearers to the committee. Those elected will serve during the 1999-2000 season and oversee the 42nd carnival to be held in Adelaide next April.
Elected to office were:
- Nick Zuvich (President).
- Peter Baehnk (Senior Vice President).
- Danny Fitzgerald (Junior Vice President).
- John Minagall (Secretary).
- Howard Herde (Treasurer).
- Trevor Gregory (Tournament Director).
- Lindsay Yeo (Committee member).
- Ian Matters (Committee member).
- Peter Jalfon (Committee member).
- Peter Baehnk (Selector).
- John McKnight (Selector).
- Lindsay Yeo (Selector).
The appointment of all officers took effect after the carnival in Perth.
President Powell extended thanks to all members for their support during his term. A special thanks was extended to the bowlers wives and partners, without whose help the various bowling events and functions couldnt have been run successfully.
Incoming president, Nick Zuvich, extended his congratulations to President Powell for his work over the past two years. He declared that he was proud to be elected and was looking forward to a big year for the Adelaide carnival.
Secretary John Minagall raised some salient points during his report. He highlighted the fact that the weather had been very unkind, causing the cancellation of some important events.
More important, he highlighted an issue which is certain to impact on this club in the future. Learn to view the world as it is and not how it was, he stressed. The pool of available players is diminishing.
The number of day-shift, weekend-off positions is decreasing, while the number of civilians in positions previously occupied by sworn police is increasing. Currently being ignored is a large number of people - including public servants - who are in the job with serving police.
Minagall indicated that this large pool of potential members can not be recognized because of the way the clubs constitution is worded. And, other state police sides seem to be experiencing similar problems.
Discussions on this issue have only just begun. However, I invite any SAPOL employee to contact me by e-mail (baehnkp@senet.com.au) with his or her point of view on this or any other subject relative to lawn bowls.
