President's Annual Report
Again we have had a rather successful year, incurring a very small loss.
The club committee has a policy to provide the best service to its members at the best possible price - that costs us in the final figures. However, the committee is well aware of this and applauds the members for appreciating what they have, and fully utilizing the facilities provided.
It has become more obvious over the year that members and their friends are supporting the efforts of our kitchen staff to the extent that the provision of food is now as important to the clubs turnover as is the bar. On behalf of the committee of management I thank chef Tony and his staff for their efforts. Hopefully, we can repay him towards the end of this year by renovating his kitchen.
The bar continues to provide the service that all members know, and for this and the continuing management of the club I thank Trevor Bakes and his staff. It is difficult to manage an establishment such as this club with broad trading hours and still manage to exist in the current competitive environment.
The Police Club remains the only viable, independent police club in Australia today, and this committee is adamant that it remains so in the future.
The Police Association has recently taken over the old office space on the first floor of the building, which for the last two years has been used by the club for meetings etc. This space has been renovated and houses the Association staff employed to produce the Police Journal.
The monthly luncheons continue to attract good patronage and the quality of speakers remains high. We attempt to provide a good cross-section of speakers who will be interesting to all members and so ask you to support this luncheon which has a history of some 30-plus years.
The committee has recently upgraded the sound system and has the intention to upgrade part of the bar room within the next few months. The provision of comfortable tables and chairs instead of the booths along with a modern coffee machine will add to the facilities of the club. We would like to renovate and modernize the main kitchen towards the end of the year with the assistance of the landlord.
I again thank the staff and my committee of management for the year just gone. It is difficult to balance a committee to an establishment such as this, with police and family responsibilities - I congratulate committee members for their efforts.
