The Last Shift

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my retirement, my last day of service being 25 November 1998.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and committee for the support and confidence given to me in the final years of my career in very trying times. Additionally I would also like to thank current and former members of my team at Adelaide CIB, friends and acquaintances who I have acquired along the way for their support.

Myself and my partner, Sue Gale, have now purchased management rights of a high rise apartment building in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast called Silverton. Needless to say an invitation is extended to all members when looking for accommodation in the Gold Coast to stay with us at a police-discounted price. Phone 07 5538 2188, Fax 07 5592 0714.

I wish the Association and its members all the best for the future in these changing times.

Yours sincerely
Trevor Lockwood.

Dear Sir

I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association due to my retirement from the South Australia Police, effective as from 22 December 1998.

I thank the Association for past benefits gained for its members and wish it well in its future endeavours.

Per medium of the Journal, I should also like to express sincere thanks to all my police and public service colleagues for their comradeship and assistance during the past 37 years.

Yours faithfully
John Bartlett
Detective Chief Superintendent
Crime Support Service

Dear Peter

Please accept my resignation from the association due to retirement. My last day of service will be 23 December, 1998.

I wish to thank you and the Association for all your efforts on behalf of the members over the years.

I joined the Police Force at a time when it was looked upon as a career. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed this career of 35 years, the work, the challenges and the comradeship. I extend my best wishes for the future to all members.

Yours faithfully
Peter Bor
Detective Sergeant
Adelaide Hills CIB

Dear Andy

I hereby advise my retirement from SAPOL effective 28 December, 1998.

As with others who have gone before, it is with mixed emotions that I leave our service after some 37 years. I will certainly miss many of the challenges that are part of the police profession and which have almost become a way of life to me; also the camaraderie which has provided support and lasting friendships. However, I believe the timing is right, and it will be interesting as a non-participant to see what eventuates as the organisation further experiments with new policing structures and methods.

I acknowledge that there will be a gap in my life in the early part of my retirement, and I may consider engaging in consultancy work in organisational integrity or contingency planning and allied fields should opportunities arise. It is necessary to keep an active mind to promote a healthy outlook.

In closing, let me say that I firmly believe that PASA has “come of age” in the provision of an effective medium to represent its membership. Given present and predicted future policing environmental trends, I suggest that there has never been a time in the history of SAPOL when membership of such an association is so necessary.

I encourage all members to support their association and, in turn, association leaders to continue to strive for best service provision to those members.

Yours sincerely
Ron Jackson
Operations Services Division.

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of SA due to my retirement, my last day of service being 30.12.98.

I take this opportunity to thank all my friends in SAPOL for their comradeship and support. In particular I wish to thank all the great guys and girls at Port Adelaide with whom I have had the pleasure of working for the last few years of my career.

Chris Birkett

Dear Peter

I hereby tender my resignation from the association as of 25th January, 1999 due to my resignation from SAPOL. A self employment opportunity has been offered to me which I have decided to take on. I wish the best of luck for the future for all those people I have had the pleasure of working with during my time in SAPOL. I also wish to thank Team 3 members for the laughs and a stress free working environment - again best luck for the future.

Constable GR Cox
3327/7
Parks Traffic Response

Dear Andy

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia effective February 10, 1999, due to my retirement from the South Australia Police.

My thanks and best wishes for the future go to my colleagues and numerous friends I have made during the past (almost) 38 years. I’m not retiring from the workforce as I am pursuing a business interest. If you’re up early enough, give a wave to the “old silver fox” when you pass him driving a red coloured ex-Tip Top Bread truck in the south-western suburbs or on the Mallee Highway.

I take this opportunity to congratulate Peter Alexander, yourself and the other members of the competent team on the executive committee for the excellent work you are doing on our behalf.

Yours sincerely
Barry deDear
Senior Constable #0339/5
