Tournaments
The latest Thursday night game against a team from the Commonwealth Bank took place on the greens of the Toorak-Burnside Bowling Club on 3 December.
The Police Bowling Club won with four of five rinks up and a score line of 79 to 63 shots. The best rink for our club, winning by 12 shots, was the four of Roger Dinham, Danny Fitzgerald, Trevor Gregory and Alan Martin.
Common Questions About Trying Lawn Bowls
(Edited version of an article by RSABA development officer, Andrew Smith)
Do I have to join to try the game?
No. You don't have to join a bowling club to try lawn bowls.
Feel free to visit or contact any of our clubs at any time - you'll receive a warm welcome.
To see if you like the game, all clubs will be able to provide you with equipment free of charge.
Who will show me how to play?
Nearly all clubs have accredited coaches who are happy to show you the basics and get you started. If a coach is not available, many other members - even though not qualified coaches - will be able to get you started.
The Rules
Umpire Roy posed the question: "Define a jack or bowl (a) in course and (b) in motion."
Jack or bowl in course - Law 1C (I)
means a jack or bowl from the time of its delivery until it comes to rest.
Jack or bowl in motion - Law 1C (ii)
means a jack or bowl which is moving as a result of play after it has been at rest as part of the head.
