Players Wanted
The SA Shrikes Police Volleyball Club needs players for its Tuesday-night competition. The team plays in A-grade at the Superdrome. Anyone interested should contact me at Salisbury police station. Previous experience is an advantage but not essential. Training will be provided for anyone willing to learn.
World Police and Fire Games
The World Police and Fire Games - to be held in Stockholm in July 1999 - are fast approaching. Due to the cost involved, few players intend to compete. But for anyone interested, it's not too late to join the team, as long as one is prepared to meet the costs.
While the team is not expected to win medals, great satisfaction will be achieved by simply attending and competing. The atmosphere at the Games is fantastic and makes participation well worth the effort.
Fundraising for the participants is well under way and many events are planned up until the team's departure. It is hoped that those not attending will assist our athletes by supporting these fundraising efforts.
Australia and NZ Police Games
The Australia and New Zealand Police Games are to be held in Melbourne in November 1999. The number of enquiries indicates that a large contingent of athletes will attend the games. Anyone who wishes to join the volleyball teams must involve themselves in our training sessions now. On this occasion we will have the luxury of selecting teams from a number of players, therefore some early preparation would be wise.
Training Resumes
After a forced rest due to the MFS gym floor being resurfaced, volleyball training has now resumed on Wednesday nights. The MFS facilities are provided free of charge and are excellent for training, especially with the upgraded floor. As always, coaching is provided free and anyone is welcome to attend. Training begins at 5:30pm and usually concludes at 7pm.
