AGM
The SA Police Motorcycle Club's annual general meeting was held at the Police Club on 3 December. All positions were voted upon and various issues were discussed.
Video Night
The club's second video night was held at the Brecknock Hotel in Adelaide on 3 November. After dining, members enjoyed some entertaining videos of dirt riders and a pommy stunt road rider - it was frightening to watch. New member from the firies, Paula Tracey, attended the evening which was her first club night.
Poker Run
Organized by Lester Martin, the club's first Poker Run was held on 8 November. About a dozen members, some with partners, met at the Hackney Hotel carpark at about 10.30am and received their first playing card. They ventured through the Adelaide Hills, stopped at three more locations and finally returned to the Hackney Hotel at about 1.30pm.
Riders then received their last playing cards and prizes were handed out during lunch. Mark and Kelly Schache from Mannum won first prize making their ride down worthwhile. The event was a great success and the weather favoured the riders.
The club appreciated the efforts of:
- Lester Martin.
- Mike Clayton (Hackney Hotel).
- Alma Hotel, Lobethal.
- BP service station, Mt Barker.
- Summertown Family Store.
Toy Run
Club members will participate in the annual Toy Run from Glenelg on 13 December. They will join a huge contingent of motorcycles of all kinds and ride to the Hahndorf oval - all for underprivileged kids. After riding to Hahndorf with toys strapped to their bikes, members will deposit the toys and ride the short distance to the Echunga oval for a barbecue lunch.
The Future
As the year's end approaches, the committee has come together to make 1999 a bigger and better year for the club. New events are planned for next year: dirt riders will have new areas to "explore"; roadies can expect some challenging rides.
To involve members' families further, more social days are planned and contact with Mallala owner, Clem Smith, has been made in an attempt to secure a ride at the track during 1999. The result of this contact should be known early next year.
Participation
Anyone seeking motorcycle riding entertainment (dirt or road) in an enjoyable "club atmosphere" should contact a committee member.
Compliments of the Season
The SA Police Motorcycle Club committee wishes all members a merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
