The annual picnic is almost upon us, and many members are expected at the dinner in November. Colin Beames is working on bus tours for early 1999.

The next regional visit to members will involve a luncheon at Murray Bridge on 30 October. All members in the region have received a letter requesting them to provide notification of their attendance with their partners.

I have already started to prepare my Christmas gift list but GG has vowed to vet it strenuously.

Welfare

We wish those on the sick list well and, if you are aware of anyone not in the best of health, please alert Tom Zacher to his or her circumstances. The association is very fortunate to have such a devoted welfare officer.

Editor’s Note:

My office has become aware of queries received by Ken and Shirley Phillips as to the changing appearance of the Retired Police Officers’ Association column.

To address those queries, I would point out that the Police Journal has become a vibrant, highly professional and well respected magazine. Its quality and reputation are envied by publishers of police periodicals throughout Australia and overseas.

But the Police Journal is a business; and like any other commercial magazine, it must meet commitments to its readership and advertisers.

This is only achieved by maintaining the journal’s modern appearance and presenting relevant copy in the most readable and aesthetically pleasing manner.

The Police Journal is happy to afford the RPOA cost savings by presenting its news in our columns. But, as a professional publisher, we must edit all members’ contributions (some extensively) to ensure that certain standards are maintained.
