AT THE CINEMA

Hope Floats

Birdee Pruitt (Sandra Bullock) seems to have it all. She’s been married for years to her high school sweetheart, and has a brilliant and sensitive child. But when her picture-perfect life comes crashing down on her, Birdie must start over.

With no place to turn, she heads home to Texas. There, life becomes even more complicated as she tries to deal with a mother (Gena Rowlands) she must get to really know for the first time, a daughter who desperately misses her father, and the prospect of a new romance with Justin (Harry Connick, JR).

Hope Floats is rated M and opens in Adelaide on October 8. For the opportunity to win a double pass to Hope Floats put your details on the back of a used envelope and address it to Mike Horsfall, Sturt Police Station (12) Hope.

There’s Something About Mary

High on the list of movies screening around Adelaide must be There’s Something About Mary. If you don’t mind viewing a few risque episodes, this great comedy romp will be a movie not to be missed.

There’s Something About Mary stars Cameron Diaz - she’s the centre of attraction and proves some men will go to great extremes to wed the woman of their dreams. This film is guaranteed to put you into fits of laughter, and make you gasp with surprise. You need to see it to believe it.

If you miss it at the cinema, get it on video. Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon and Chris Elliott are also in the cast.

THE INFINITE BLUE - Rani

After the success of her single, Always on my Mind, in 1997, Rani’s debut album should bring the success she hopes for. There’s a remix of her 1993 hit I Have a Dream, as well as Always on my Mind. But don’t be misled, this album is certainly not a best-of.

The Infinite Blue is a collection of fresh new music and vocals, with a variety of styles that should suit many tastes. Be prepared to sit back and absorb the music or get out on the dance floor as Rani covers a wide range of styles from dance music, rhythm and blues, hip hop, to drums and bass and jazz. Released by Virgin Records The Infinite Blue is in stores now.
