Sixty-eight South Australian police officers raised more than $120,000 by having their heads shaved for this years Bluey Day (formally Crop-a-Cop). The event, held in the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in August, was supported by numerous volunteers.
Now an international event, Bluey Day originated in Horsham, Victoria. Police officers from around the country join the head shave to raise funds for children living with cancer. This years national event was held at Jupiters Casino on Queenslands Gold Coast.
Bluey Day proceeds will be presented to the Adelaide Womens and Childrens Hospital to aid the fight against childhood cancer.
One officer who ventured into voluntary baldness for the first time was Norwood Police Stations Constable Chris Lanchester. Chris began his fund-raising efforts only four weeks before the head shave but managed to raise almost $2000.
I decided to do it because I thought it was for a good cause, he said. He was grateful for the generosity of local businesses and colleagues at Norwood.
And, while Chris appears comfortable with the prospect of having no hair, he says his family isnt so sure about his Michael Klim look.
