Monthly Meeting - August

President Les Morris welcomed members to the August meeting and introduced new committee member, Maureen Dwyer.

Les stated that, as a former nursing sister, Maureen could attend to cuts and bruises if committee meetings became violent.

As in all committee meetings, our members express differing opinions, but differences which emerge in our committee are settled verbally. And those differences remain in the committee room.

Maureen's introduction to committee was very busy - she volunteered to assist our treasurer to take bookings and fees for the annual dinner. She and Ken took 52 bookings and collected $884.

Those thinking of attending the dinner should book now and pay $17 to the treasurer.

Health Fund

Welfare officer, Tom Zacher, announced the names of members who had died in July and mentioned the thank-you cards he had received. He also reported on the health fund and drew members' attention to the actions of a private hospital. His message was that members should make sure that the private hospital of their choice is fully covered by Police Health.

Entertainment

The Golden Girls - a group of ladies inclusive of grandmothers - were our afternoon entertainers. From members' reactions, I'd suggest they'll be invited back. The ladies' fees are paid to the Cancer Foundation. And members contributed $45 when the hat was passed around.

Regional Visit

The committee has decided to make a fourth regional visit to Murray Bridge and the surrounding area on 30 October. Retired Police Officers' Association members residing in Murray Bridge will receive letters.

Picnic

All members are reminded of the picnic on Sunday, 18 October. Please advise if you'll be attending and if you want your barbecue lunch.
