SAPBC carnival team

The SAPBC selection committee recently filled the 24 places on its team for the 47th Australia Police Bowling Championships, after 31 members had nominated. With strict adherence to SAPBC selection policy, the committee chose the players below to compete in the carnival from April 17 at the Holdfast Bay Bowling Club.

Singles Cavaiuolo. Gregory. Morris. Davies. Championship fours Davies Gregory Minagall Cavaiuolo Heins Yeo Powell Matters Pairs Yeo/Zuvich. Powell/Jalfon. Boyer/Carroll. McKnight/Heins. Herde/Wardle. Fitzgerald/Wakefield McKnight (skip) Morris (third) Hall (second) Grandfield (lead) Wakefield (skip) Zuvich (third) Herde (second) Carroll (lead)

The selection committee will finalize the “sides” teams just before the carnival, and says that members Dahlitz, Dowling, Holden and Young will be the first players selected for the triples teams.

The SAPBC hopes that those who did not make it onto the carnival team will nonetheless support the event.

Police Legacy Cosmo Fours

The SAPBC held the Police Legacy Cosmo Fours charity event at the Woodville Bowling Club in January. The twilight occasion drew 120 bowlers and enabled the SAPBC to present $400 – raised from the match – to Police Legacy.

Mixed fours

The SAPBC held its annual mixed fours competition at the Grange Bowling Club in January. Fortunately, weather conditions were conducive to good play, the results of which appear below.

Winner of the winners
(57 points + 10 shots up)

Winner of the losers
(30 points + 23 shots up)

Grace Maine (lead)

Past Presidents club fours

The SAPBC fought out its annual club fours match against the Past Presidents Association at the Clarence Gardens Bowling Club in late January.

This vigorous contest is usually close; and the SAPBC has held sway over the last few matches. To its delight, it ran out as the winner again (67 – 61) in yet another close one. Team-by-team results appear below.

The SAPBC retained the annual trophy with a five-shot win over the Past Presidents.

Championship pairs

Members of the SAPBC took part in the club championship pairs at the Holdfast Bay Bowling Club in early February.

Country members Ian Young and Allan Martin attended, as did new member, Geoff Lehmann. The weather was, for a change, near perfect, and the conditions allowed some tight competitions among the players.

A breakdown of each pairing’s score card appears right.

Mixed fours

The SAPBC held a mixed four’s day at the Payneham Bowling Club in mid-February. Excellent weather brought out many bowlers, from both the SAPBC and Payneham, as well as other clubs.
Results of the day’s play were:

Winner of the winners

Trevor Gregory (skip).
Jim Manie (third).
Keith Jones (second).
Grace Manie (lead).

Winner of the losers

Kingsley Lawrie (skip).
Graham Boyer (third).
Liz Boyer (second).
M Gardiner (lead).

Club fours

SAPBC members gathered at Ascot Park Bowling Club to do battle with members from Bowls SA in mid-February. As the weather was extremely kind, the competition played out in near perfect night conditions.

This match proved to be another very close contest, with Bowls SA emerging the winner by five shots. See scores right.
