SA Police Motorcycle Club

By Jim Andrew, President

Road rides

Road-riders ventured out only a few times in the inclement weather of the last few months of 2004. Rarely able to catch the sun, they took rides of the usual high standard through the Adelaide Hills to Mannum.

Road-ride boss, Matt Nairn, also took some keen club members to Hindmarsh Island via Delamere. This is a great ride and view.

MotoGP

Nine club members took a fantastic ride over to the 2004 World GP round at Phillip Island, on eight bikes and in one car, in mid-October. They had left a day before the event, stopped at Warrnambool overnight, and ventured along the Great Ocean Road to the Island.

The members watched competitors practise on the Saturday and, on Sunday, saw a day of the best riding ever. Valentino Rossi eventually won, but only just. The crowd had been huge, the racing unreal and the merchandise plentiful.

Greatly satisfied with their venture over to the race, members cruised back to Adelaide via Warrnambool.

Dirt rides

Club members undertook several weekday and weekend dirt rides in the last quarter of 2004. They again visited Coonalpyn, where the president kissed the dirt at around 100km/h. With both pride and ribs bruised, and a slightly bent XR650, he limped back to camp to throw on a bandaid or two.

Apart from that misadventure, the members all enjoyed the usual great ride that Coonalpyn provides.

Toy Run 2004

Several club members took part in the annual Toy Run on December 12. After meeting on Anzac Highway, they joined the huge number of bike-riders who rode through to Hahndorf Oval to donate toys for needy children.

This great event seems to grow each year.

Events for 2005

The newly elected club committee is keen to provide interesting and enjoyable rides for road- and dirt-riders alike. It hopes to attract more members and get the families out to campaways to enjoy some of the properties it has secured.

The committee also hopes to host a couple of new properties in 2005, and Matt Nairn will again host the road rides through the hotter months.

The president is organizing a road ride to Tasmania in February 2006. He is well informed that Tassie has the best roads anywhere. Those who plan to participate will need around two weeks off work.
