Dear Andy
Allow me to apologize for the delay in sending through my termination
from the Police Association. Since resigning from SAPOL in March 2004,
I have been backpacking through Europe and have only recently returned.
I loved being a policeman. I had a great time, I made great friends
and I do miss the company of my colleagues.
I chose to resign from SAPOL due to the success of my own business
as a mortgage broker - something I started more than two years prior
to my resignation.
I feel I am a lucky person to resign from SAPOL happy in the fact
that I was enjoying being a police officer and that I never left as
a disenchanted employee.
Few people know of my success as a police officer due to the private
nature of some of my work within SAPOL. However, I was deeply disappointed
by years of hard work and success that I do not believe was given
due recognition.
My current employment has me subcontracting to a large financial
firm called Money Advisers. I love that each and every day I know
that I am a valued member of a great team and that they sincerely
appreciate my hard work.
As a mortgage broker, I help people who welcome me into their homes.
I am glad to say that I am building a large list of police officers
as clients. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to assist my
past colleagues in their financial matters and save them money, rather
than paying their hard-earned money to the banks.
To all the people I worked with over the past five years at Murray
Bridge, Communications, Sturt, Netley and Drug and Organised Crime,
I wish you all the best. I value the friendships we have built and
the great times we had.
I cherished helping my community and putting crooks where they belong.
If at times you feel you are not appreciated, take comfort in the
fact that the majority of the population admire and respect you, and
value your services to the community. I sure do.
Yours sincerely
Scott Matthews

Dear Andy
I must resign from the Police Association on September 16, 2004
- my last day of service with SA Police. So much growth and friendship,
how can I ever thank them? Could you please do so on my behalf?

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association. My last
day of service was September 27, 2004.
After four-and-a-half years’ service with SAPOL, and constant whinging
about the cold weather, I have decided to accept a position with the
Queensland Police Service.
I have had a fantastic time in SAPOL and walk away with nothing
but fond memories.
I thank the many members I have worked with over the years, especially
those from Sturt, Christies Beach (patrols and prosecution), Communications
and, recently, Transit (for a couple of weeks).
If any of you are ever in Cairns, look me up (Sharon, Danni and Annie
and I already have your bookings). I will be the one with the huge
grin on my face.
Best wishes to all for the future.
Yours sincerely
Toni Ryan

Dear Andy
I would ask that you accept my resignation from the Police Association
with my last day of service being September 29, 2004.
I never thought I would be writing a “Dear Andy” letter at this
point in my career, but I have resigned from SAPOL to commence employment
on behalf of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office as a police trainer/mentor.
I have loved my career with SAPOL and will seek to return following
this experience.
From my days as a cadet with Course 60, through my postings at Port
Adelaide, Transit, Adelaide and STAR Operations, I have enjoyed every
moment. Thank you to everyone I have worked with or had the good fortune
to meet over the last 11 years. I hope to see you all again in the
not-too-distant future.
Sgt Peter Stephenson
STAR Operations
Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the PASA due to my invalidity retirement
from SAPOL - last day October 2, 2004.
To Peter and all the Police Association mob, thanks for ensuring
members:
- Are kept informed and have a powerful state and federal voice.
- Get the best pay and conditions available.
- Are provided with support, legal and other.
- Can get well watered and fed at the club.
I gained much valuable experience from my two years as a delegate.
All coppers should get involved.
Of SAPOL managers I have experienced:
The good - who helped and encouraged me to remain in the job
after my 1981 diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). Their positive
attitudes assisted me to persist and gain sergeant and snr sergeant
positions against the odds.
The funny - these included the boss getting his necktie stuck
in a hungry shredding machine.
The ethically- and professionally-challenged - some of whom
seemed to believe compliance with legislation was for others. The
positive spin on my experience with them is that it toughened me up
to deal with the testing and weird symptoms of MS.
All at once, I realized that, if, at 51 years of age, I didn’t have
a mid-life crisis, I would soon be too old. I will start each retirement
day slowly and build up to total relaxation.
To the wonderful FOIU staff, “I love yooz all”. May X-Lotto be your
early saviour.
To John, Olli, and the remaining C27 members, congratulations.
Thanks for the invaluable help and support provided by chaplain,
Dianna Bartlett, Ray and Trevor (Welfare), Police Health, the cards,
calls and visits from Tony and Steve (PLA), police solicitors, Chris
Fear, the late Ian Humphries (Rehab), John White, and so many other
mates. I go out on a good note.
Without the support and love of my beautiful and tenacious wife,
Dee, my kids, parents, family and friends, I fear the MS would have
laid me flat 20 years ago.
Thanks to our State and Federal governments, I have all the money
I’ll ever need, as long as I die before Christmas.
I have so many interesting, sometimes embarrassing, often embellished
memories of my time in the job - and some of them actually happened.
My messages to the new SAPOL breed are:
- Humour - never leave the patrol base without it.
- I do see a time when there will be no need for police - that
will be great. However, I don’t see any people living in that time.
- For now, do whatever you can to save the earth. It’s the only
planet known to have Coopers Stout.

Dear Andy
I hereby resign from PASA due to my retirement as of October 22,
2004, from SAPOL.

Dear Andy
I resign from the Police Association on November 5, 2004, on the
same day I retire from SAPOL.
I have enjoyed my last 38 years and, in particular, the last 20
served in country areas.
I recognize the Police Association’s value to the members, and the
efforts it puts in for pay and conditions for all.
As a country detective, I appreciated the valuable contribution and
assistance that the specialized units, such as Major Crime, DOCIB
and Covert Section, made in some of the major investigations I was
fortunate to have been involved with.
I say a special thank you to all the country police I have worked
with over the last 20 years and, in particular, the “country detective”.
I leave the job with the belief that I have made a positive contribution
to SAPOL and the community.
My wife and I have retired to the Gold Coast.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective
from November 10, 2004, being my last day of service with SAPOL.
I say farewell to everyone with whom I have had the pleasure to
work over the past 42 years, particularly friends and colleagues at
Sturt LSA.
Many thanks for the excellent work achieved by the association over
the years.
Yours faithfully

Dear Andy
I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association. My last
day of service was November 10, 2004.
I say farewell to all personnel whom I have had the privilege of
working with over the past 40 years.
I also thank the association for the hard yards it has put in to
achieve the conditions and wage increases, especially this last milestone.
Mind you, if it had not been for a bloke named Dunstan, who decimated
an Industrial Court decision in the early ’70s, you would not have
had to work so hard trying to catch up our wages.
So I guess it is goodbye, good luck and thanks for the memories.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South
Australia. I have retired from SAPOL and my last day of service was
November 10, 2004.
During my 40 years of service, I have met and worked with some wonderful
people. Apart from a few minor frustrations, I have enjoyed my career
and I consider myself very fortunate to have been involved in some
interesting and successful investigations.
I acknowledge the professional and dedicated contributions by personnel
from all those areas and sections that make up “team” investigations.
My part has been minor and made easy as a result of working with the
best.
I wish the PASA and current members of SAPOL all the best for the
future and thanks to everyone for all you have contributed in making
my time enjoyable.
Regards to you all
