Sleeper tournament

The SA Police Bowling Club competed against teams from the Grange Bowling Club, Customs and the Master Builders in the annual Sleeper tournament at Grange in early October.

This is a round-robin event, in which each club or agency plays against the other and, at the end of the day, the one with the highest total wins the trophy.

The players competed in fine weather, and the SAPBC teams’ results were:

  • D Dahlitz, F Atkinson, L Savage and C Davies - defeated Customs (14 - 9), lost to Master Builders (11 - 12) and defeated Grange (17 - 9).
  • P Jalfon, I Doering, I Powell and J Morris - defeated Customs (11 - 8), lost to Master Builders (7 - 10) and defeated Grange (15 - 6).
  • R Allen, I Matters, H Herde and T Gregory - lost to Customs (9 - 12) and defeated Master Builders (12 - 8) and Grange (14 - 13).
  • P Carroll, K Jones, C Cavaiuolo and L Yeo - defeated Customs (18 - 7), Master Builders (12 - 10) and Grange (11 - 7).

The SAPBC was victorious for the second year in a row and retained the Sleeper trophy.

Opening day

The SAPBC held the official opening of the 2004-05 season at the Elizabeth Bowling Club on October 17. The club’s longest-serving life member, Rex Kruger, performed the day’s official opening.

Weather conditions were perfect but, as the club had had to replace two of its greens, player numbers were restricted for the day. “A” green had not progressed as well as the club had hoped it would.

Results for the day were:

  • Winners of the winners (with a total of 56 points) - D Dahlitz (lead), N Ruediger (second), R Ruediger (third) and J Dahlitz (skip).
  • Winners of the losers (with a total of 33 points) - K Kleinig (lead), D May (second), D Priest (third) and W May (skip).

Club fours

SAPBC members competed in a club fours competition against the Ascot Park Bowling Club in late October. A mufti dress code applied to the event. Results of the night’s play were:

  • G Boyer, A Hall, P Carroll and P Jalfon won (17 - 9).
  • D Fitzgerald, J Minagall, K Jones and K Grandfield lost (7 - 15).
  • C Davies, K Furnell, B Dowling and D Dahlitz lost (13 - 15).
  • C. Cavaiuolo, M Powell, F Holden and K Wardle lost (9 - 23).
  • L Savage, F Atkinson, I Matters and J Aird lost (13 - 15).

Ascot Park won - 76 to 58.
