Mandurah carnival
SA Police Bowling Club teams made it to the finals on the last day
of action at the Mandurah Carnival in Western Australia last April.
But, firing on all cylinders, other states’ teams defeated SA which,
in the end, had to accept runner-up status.
Nearly the entire SAPBC contingent had taken part in a charity-day
fours competition the day before the carnival began. That gave most
competitors their first look at the greens and clubrooms.
In sightly overcast conditions, the players produced some very good
bowling and found that the greens would be more than adequate for
the carnival.
The WAPBC had chosen to stage the event away from Perth and appoint
the Mandurah Bowling Club as organizer.
SA Police Bowling Club 2004-05 season
SAPBC members gathered at the Police Club in June to hold their AGM
for the 2004-05 season. All positions were declared vacant and nominations
were accepted for them. Those elected to positions on the club executive
were:
- Trevor Gregory (president).
- John Minagall (vice-president).
- Danny Fitzgerald (secretary).
- Nick Zuvich (treasurer).
- Graham Boyer (tournament director).
- Ian Matters (committee).
- Cosimo Caviauolo (committee).
- Graham Wakefield (committee/publicity officer).
- Lyall Savage (committee).
- Karen Grandfield (committee).
- John Morris (committee).
Carnival 2005
The club committee has already begun preparations for the upcoming
carnival, and will ensure that a complete and comprehensive record
- including costings - is kept. This will ensure the carnival runs
smoothly and that any future committees responsible for running other
carnivals have a solid, well-documented reference.
To this end, committee members attended a special planning meeting
on July 7, when they set down the foundations for the entire planning
phase for the 2005 carnival.
This has allowed the committee to set out and document flow charts
so that all aspects of the carnival are covered. The committee will
now approach club members who have earlier indicated their ability
to assist with preparations.
Tournament programme
The chairman of selectors, along with the committee, is working though
the tournament programme for the 2004-05 season. The aim is to look
at ways in which to improve the programme and provide the best results
for the club and its members. The programme will circulate by newsletter
and the Internet in the near future.
Sports Federation membership
Retired members are reminded that the renewal of membership of the
SA Police Sports Federation falls due every January. Membership is
open to serving and retired members. The only criterion is that the
applicant “must have been a member of a police force for a minimum
of 10 years”.
SAPBC web page
Members continue to ask how to find the SAPBC website. The steps
are:
- Go to the SAPOL website at www.police.sa.gov.au.
- Click on Site Map.
- Under Related Area/s, scroll down to, and click on, SA Police
Bowling Club.
To save the page as a shortcut
Those using Internet Explorer can set up a shortcut with three steps:
- With the page displayed, go to the tool bar and click on Favourites
to bring down a drop box which will display an options menu.
- From this menu, select Add to Favourites and another drop box
will prompt you to supply a reference name. (I suggest you type
SAPBC.)
- Click on Save and, for future access to the page, simply click
on Favourites. Then, from the list supplied, click on SAPBC and
the system will take you straight to the page.
If you are using an Internet access other than Internet Explorer
you should check on the tool bar of that system. You might find that
it has an area which will allow you to store a favourite website address.
