Enterprise bargain No.4

Police Association delegates met on September 9, 2004, to consider an offer from the State Government in settlement of their fourth round of enterprise bargaining. They moved to commend the offer - which will bring average wage increases of 18.9 per cent within two years - to the association membership.

This offer comes after six months of intensive negotiations between the association and government, with Commissioner Mal Hyde. The new agreement, if it is endorsed by the membership, will see the introduction of new police ranks, incentives and new career-path opportunities.

After the extensive negotiations, the government agreed to pay SA police wages at the mid-point level in comparison to other Australian police jurisdictions. So the offer is a serious commitment by the Rann Government to remunerate police at a level comparable with that of their interstate counterparts.

The association engaged industrial mathematician, Dr David Scullen, PhD, to ensure that the mid-point was identified at all ranks and comparable with interstate jurisdictions.

This offer places ranks within SAPOL at the mathematical mid-point of police salaries nationally on July 1, 2005. The restructuring payment of October 1, 2004, varies at each rank and increment accordingly.

You will receive a ballot at your home in the near future. It is important that you take the time to vote and return your ballot in the reply-paid envelope.

A YES vote will bring about the introduction of the new rank structure and restructuring payment on October 1, 2004. The association strongly recommends that you accept this offer.

If you have any questions, please make direct calls to association staff.
