Dear Andy
It is with regret that I write this letter to you at this stage
of my career to tender my resignation from the Police Association
of South Australia, effective March 29, 2004, due to my retirement
from SAPOL.
Serious health issues have beset me once again which has forced me
to retire earlier than anticipated. I would have liked to have done
a couple of more years as I still enjoyed coming to work after nearly
31/2 years.
I enjoyed every posting I had throughout my career, have worked
with many great people, and will never forget the wonderful people
at Holden Hill CIB back in the mid-’80s. Their assistance, friendship
and support to my family and me will never be forgotten. To the people
in my current position who have assisted me now, I say thank you.
To the association, I say it has been a great comfort to know that
you are always there for the members. I have appreciated all the work
and effort you do for us. Keep up the good work and good luck for
the future.
Kind regards
Darryl Applebee
Detective Sergeant
Telecommunications Interception Section
Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective
from May 5, 2004, which is my last day with SAPOL.
I wish to thank all my friends and colleagues who have assisted me
and helped me throughout my service with SAPOL.

Dear Andy
I wish to advise that I have resigned from the South Australia Police
effective May 12, 2004, and therefore wish to cease my membership
with PASA.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association. My last
day of service was May 16, 2004.
After 36 years with SAPOL I have left to accept a position with the
Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC).
I have had a wonderful journey in SAPOL and have made numerous friends
at my various postings. I was fortunate to be a member of Course 25
(1968) and spend three years with a fantastic group – all 43 of us.
I particularly thank the members that I worked with at Para Hills,
Elizabeth, Gawler, Elizabeth CIB, Corporate Affairs Commission and
the Fraud Squad. The last 20 years I have worked in the Major Fraud
Section alongside many dedicated detectives working on protracted
and difficult matters. I leave with many great memories of both humorous
and serious times whilst working in the white-collar crime area.
I thank you, the executive and staff of the association for your
untiring efforts in preserving members’ rights and benefits. I have
not forgotten the support and assistance provided to me by the association
on one occasion after I was assaulted.
Yours sincerely

Ex-Detective Senior Sergeant 1860/9

Andy
I am writing to cancel my membership with the Police Association.
I resigned on June 7, 2004.
I wish everyone from my former course, 54, all the best for the
future. They are great people who will make fine police officers.
I also thank Senior Constable Brian Stone and Sergeant John Hood,
who supported my decision to resign.
This was a long-time dream which I worked hard to achieve, but not
all dreams are meant to be ours.
Thanks again to everyone at Fort Largs. All the best.
Yours sincerely

Dear Andy
I wish to advise you of my resignation from SAPOL effective June
9, 2004, and of my subsequent cancellation of membership with the
Police Association of SA, as I have accepted a position with the Australian
Federal Police in Canberra.
Thanks and regards to the members of Course 36, and everyone at
Transit, Netley, and Communications.
Yours sincerely

The Secretary
Please be advised that I have resigned from SAPOL effective June
20, 2004. I am therefore also resigning from the Police Association.
Thank you for all your help and support.
Yours sincerely
Christopher Cools
The Secretary
I am writing to advise of my retirement from the police service
and subsequent cessation of membership of the Police Association.
After 36 years I have had enough. I have enjoyed the job and could
not have asked for better people with whom to work. My time working
patrols in the city and northern regions was great and since being
transferred to the City Watch House I have worked with some very competent
and dedicated members.
To all the members with whom I have worked, I thank you. Without
good workmates there is no real reason to go to work.
Good luck to all who remain and I hope to see some of you out and
about in the future.
Yours sincerely
Dave “Stumpy” Sinclair
City Watch House
Dear Andy
It is with great regret that I ask you to accept my resignation
from the Police Association of South Australia, due to my resignation
from SAPOL, effective June 23, 2004.
My wife has taken a management position with Western Mining at Roxby
Downs but, alas, there is no room at the inn for me – the Roxby Downs
Police Station is fully staffed, and even has a .5 FTE over establishment.
I have given part-time a go, but a 1,200km return is a long way
to drive to work. The department has procrastinated over my application
for leave without pay for months, so I am left with little option.
I have been trying to get a resolution for the past six months and
have decided to take the stance that family comes first. It’s now
time to put my money where my mouth is.
I have accepted a position with Chandler Macleod as its site co-ordinator.
Basically, I will be running the hiring, firing and everything in
between for the contract labour needed by Western Mining Olympic Dam
Operation.
The hardest thing for me about leaving SAPOL will be coming to terms
with the fact that I’m no longer “in the job”. I hadn’t realized just
how much it meant to me and how much I loved it, until it came time
to make a decision.
I thank everyone who I have worked with over my time with SAPOL.
Even with shrinking budgets and increased workloads, you all still
just get out there and get the job done.
A special thanks to my father, Sgt Philip Moreton. Thanks for being
there when I needed to talk things through. It may not have felt like
it, but it did make all the difference.
Good luck to all of you who have the guts to make the job a career.
I hope someday to rejoin you.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, effective
June 30, 2004, to coincide with my last day of service with SAPOL.
Thanks and good luck to all I have met and worked with during my
time in SAPOL.
All the best
Chris Harden
The Secretary
On July 3, 2004, I will be leaving SAPOL and also the Police Association.
I have been thinking about the recent Police Journal article
(Bound for degrees, November 2003) on the number of police
officers studying at university, with the consensus being that they
would leave SAPOL if greater opportunities arose on the outside.
A number of years ago I too decided to embark on an undergraduate
degree, which I completed earlier this year. It is now time for me
to move on because the visions I once had of greater opportunities
have now become my reality.
I have been awarded a scholarship to undertake a PhD with the University
of South Australia, as well as an opportunity to teach in a number
of courses in both the social work and science disciplines. This new
direction, I cannot refuse.
Thanks for all the good times and friendships at SAPOL. My door
will be open and the kettle hot for any good people passing by – both
my home and office at UniSA, Magill.
Thinking about going to uni? Just do it!

Dear Andy
I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association of SA
as from July 7, 2004, that being my last day of service with SAPOL.
I thank the association for its efforts over my 38 years of service,
the association being a leading force in industrial matters with innovative
and progressive achievements for the benefit of all members.
I, like many others before me, always wondered: “When is the right
time to retire?” I was often told: “You will know when the time is
right.” Well, that time has come, and I feel it is right.
Throughout my career I have been fortunate that I have worked with
many inspirational and dedicated colleagues, at times working under
extremely stressful circumstances, but still retaining an admirable
work ethic. Unfortunately, there have been some who have fallen well
short when it comes to police ethics and have been more concerned
with self-gain than any concern for their communities or colleagues
but, as is often said: “Their day will come.”
I leave with no regrets. The many good memories far outweigh those
of disgruntled and destructive colleagues or disturbing circumstances.
To my mentors of all ranks, young and old, and those men and women
who shared the enthusiasm for being a good copper and getting the
job done, thank you for the experiences and your support.
To David Marr and his small band of dedicated welfare staff, I thank
you for your support and understanding, not only for myself, but for
the numerous occasions when you responded to assist colleagues and
their families in times of need. We have come to accept and rely on
your presence and assistance and forget what we did in SAPOL before
your services were available to us. A sincere thank you to all.
After a nomadic career moving around the country, Lorraine and I
finally have our own new home at Strathalbyn and would be pleased
to have a “gargle” or two with visiting friends… that is if we are
not away camping, travelling or fishing.
Again, thank you to the association, I wish you well for the future.

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, my last
day of service being July 7, 2004. I have decided to accept a position
with the Department for Administrative and Information Services (DAIS)
as a rehabilitation co-ordinator.
I thank everyone I have worked with and who has supported me during
my time at Holden Hill LSA (including my husband). I especially say
thank you and good luck to members from Course 50.
Although brief, I have enjoyed my time with SAPOL. I wish everyone
all the very best for the future and, most of all, no stress.
Thank you

Special thanks to all those who have shared my work and the fun times.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, effective
July 28, 2004, which is my last day of service with SAPOL.
My early retirement is simply due to a business opportunity that
arose and, after almost 33 years’ service, I have no regrets, no complaints
and no axe to grind. I have many fond memories and am proud of the
organization I have been privileged to work within.
I thank the association for its representation of all members and
wish all who continue to serve the very best for the future.
Yours faithfully
