Mandurah Carnival team

SA Police Bowling Club selectors have recently faced the arduous task of deciding on the team placements of members who nominated for the Mandurah Carnival.

The selectors have to consider many variables, such as formulating teams that will best represent South Australia at the carnival. And the selected teams look likely to give the SAPBC a great chance of victory in the sides competition.

Presentation night

This season’s presentation night will be held at the Police Club in the ground-floor dining room on Thursday, March 18. The meal selection will come from the normal club menu, and sports psychologist, Mr T Dodds, will give a short speech.

Police Legacy charity triples

The SAPBC held its Police Legacy charity night at the Woodville Bowling Club last January. Staged as a twilight meeting, it began at 6pm and consisted of a triples format, with each team made up of a registered Bowls SA member and non-bowlers and/or “night owl” bowlers.

Taking part in the night’s competition were 38 teams from all over the metropolitan area. Some were made up of members of the Police Credit Union – the night’s sponsor – and the SA Police Legacy executive.

Police Association secretary, Andy Dunn, performed the MC duties, but could also be seen and heard all around the greens and clubrooms as he collected donations for Police Legacy, with his upturned hat.

At the end of the night’s entertainment, the SAPBC presented Police Legacy with $740 it had raised throughout the event.

On the winners’ side of the ledger, two teams emerged with the same number of shots and ends won, and so shared first and second prize money. The team members were: Nick Zuvich, Kevin Woolidge and Maureen Zuvich; Garret Mattner, James Minagall and Sov Marafiote. Third prize went to the team of Susan Jones, John Morton and Maureen Allen.

This event is scheduled to take place again next year, only with more prizes and spot giveaways planned.

Past presidents

Results of the game between the SAPBC and the Past Presidents Bowling Club at Clearview Bowling Club in late January were: SAPBC – 81 shots; Past Presidents – 60 shots.

In the teams were:

L Yeo            K Furnell     I Doering   P Jalfon         17 – 8
J Morris        G Boyer      B Dowling D Dahlitz       17 – 11

T Gregory     M Powell    K Jones     B Johnson    19 – 18

The SAPBC won by 21 shots overall.
