Dear Andy
I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association of South
Australia, effective from November 19, 2003, due to my retirement
from SAPOL.
I have enjoyed working with many dedicated personnel during my 42
years of service and have had a challenging and rewarding career.
Additionally, I wish to express my thanks to the association for
its efforts over the years in providing support to SAPOL members.
Regards
Richard Baird
Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, due to
my resignation from SAPOL, effective November 19, 2003. I must apologize
for the delay in this letter, but my new employment has kept me rather
busy.
After 13 years’ service to SAPOL, gaining skills and experience,
the opportunity of a career break presented itself. My application
for LWOP was rejected and thus my hand was forced to resign. I have
full intentions of returning to the policing environment, but within
which demographic I am undecided.
I thank the Police Association staff for their diligent, professional
and tenacious efforts to assist all PASA members. On the occasions
that I was in need of PASA assistance, the representatives were there,
ready to assist. In particular, I thank my long-time friend and work
colleague, Mark Carroll, for his support and professionalism.
As for my mentors, there were many, and their skills and approaches
varied, yet I learnt valuable lessons from each of them. From patrols:
Stephen Steel and Eddie Edwards; from the CIB: Dave McGinlay, Graham
Barton, Des Bray, John Garde, Mick Clarke and Peter Hibbard; and,
finally from STAR Ops: Charlie Armour, Darren Watkins – but the STAR
list is exhaustive.
To those listed above, and others I have worked with, I give sincere
thanks, for your guidance, experience and Aussie “mateship”.
I also thank all the often-overlooked training facilitators within
SAPOL. In my current position, I am working with peers from around
the globe, and the training I received from SAPOL has enabled me to
hold my own in a trying environment.
Kind regards
Peter Goodfellow
Senior Constable

Dear Andy
I am writing to inform you of my resignation from SAPOL, my last
day being January 21, 2004.
During my time with SAPOL, I have met so many amazing people. My
course mates were and still are fantastic and I hope to keep in touch
as we do today.
Academy staff were tremendous and a certain few particularly come
to mind as being considerate, helpful and such a good laugh.
The people at Glenelg will never be forgotten. Although small and
run down, Glenelg patrol base had character and working there was
so much fun. I was fortunate to also have a proactive and energetic
senior partner who has provided me with numerous warries.
To all those at Netley, keep up the good work. With such a huge patrol
to cover and minimal staff, you guys do an awesome job. It seems as
though patrol members are considered as the bottom of the ladder at
times. This is really disappointing.
Actual patrol work on the road is demanding but good fun. I have
had some great rumbles, foot chases and have met some inspirational
victims.
Thanks to Dog Ops for my mate, Bosco.
To my team at Netley, you are the best and I will dearly miss working
with you.
However, the lifestyle and warmth of the Gold Coast is calling. I
know there will be similar frustration in QPOL and the same amount
of lazy bastards, but the incentives at this point in time are too
good to refuse. It may not be greener but I won’t know until I try.
So, bye for now and to all of you who have already booked your ticket,
I will see you soon.
Lana Sommers and Bosco
Constable 5633/7
Netley Patrols
Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective
from January 22, 2004, which will be my last day of active duty with
SAPOL.
My thanks to you and the staff at the association for all that you
have done and will do for all of us – it is really appreciated. Goodbye
to everyone I have had the pleasure to work with over the last 33
years and all the best for the future.
Julie and I are moving to Elliston on the West Coast and then doing
a working holiday around Australia.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation form the Police Association of South
Australia, due to my resignation from SAPOL, effective February 11,
2004.
From the exciting times and camaraderie of Course 41 in 1990, to
finding myself a victim of crime in August 2000, it is the friendships
and culture that I will take with me most.
I leave SAPOL with no regrets and many happy memories. During the
past 14 years, a majority of my time has been served within the Port
Adelaide local service area, where I have made lifelong friends and
have experienced the ups and downs of policing.
I especially thank the members (my mates) who I have had the privilege
to work with during my policing career. As Tennyson wrote in Ulysses:
“I am a part of all that I have met.” I have been influenced by more
people than I can even count, but I want to thank some of them – Feathers
(ret), Pap, JK, Thommo, Hayden (res), Colin and Mike.
Special thanks to Jack Kelso and Michael Murphy and all those members
who assisted my wife and me during Operation Manx. Thanks to you,
Andy, and Mark Carroll, for your support and professionalism during
that time.
To the men and women at Henley who I have had the pleasure and honour
to serve with, remember, it’s okay to hit the pause button once in
a while, step off the merry-go-round and take a breath.
I wish you all the very best.

Dear Andy
I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association, effective
February 13, 2004, my last day of service in SAPOL.
I thank the Police Association for its help over the past eight
months.
To all the people in Ceduna and Port Patrols who I didn’t see prior
to leaving, thanks for all the memories and hopefully I will catch
up with you in the future.
Phil Stewart
Constable 5783/5

Dear Andrew

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from Police Association of South Australia
due to my resignation from SAPOL, my last day of service being February
25, 2004. I am returning to my former career as a registered nurse
where I feel I can contribute more to society in this role than as
a police officer.
I have really enjoyed my time with SAPOL and have worked with a fantastic
bunch of people at Salisbury Patrols, and the DNA Prisoner Testing
Teams. I especially thank Pete Watson and bicycle patrol members,
and all the people I have worked with over the past four years. This
letter would go on forever if I named everybody who has helped and
supported me through my time at SAPOL, but I remember each and every
one of them and thank them all.
I joined this job looking for a challenge and I certainly found
one. I also found great friends and a fantastic man who will be with
me always.
I wish all my friends and colleagues at Salisbury, Elizabeth and
(former) Prisoner Testing Teams all the best for the future.
Yours Sincerely
Kerrie Hayes
Constable 4852/9

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South
Australia, as after a little more than 33 years of service with SAPOL
and at the ripe old age of 50, I have elected to retire on March 3,
2004. Why? Because I can.
I cannot emphasize enough the enjoyment and experiences I encountered
during the majority of those fun-filled years. Of course, with fun,
also comes hurdles and, while I have had my fair share of those, I
leave with no malice, few regrets and many fond experiences and memories.
One could write a book, but I dare not as I value my friendships and,
besides, away from SAPOL, who would possibly believe me?
While many of my postings were traffic-orientated, either as a speed
cop, Traffic Ops, Planning, In-Service Training and Prosecution (Traffic
and Holden Hill), I also had the pleasure of working in Community
Affairs Branch and Licensing and Gaming Advice Section. Each and every
one of those areas has provided me with lifelong friendships, a great
deal of laughter and an appreciation of life (not to mention the coffee).
I sincerely thank my ex-colleagues, police officers and public servants
alike, for being themselves and making life what it is.
To the PASA committee, staff and delegates, both past and present,
thank you for your endeavours and much valued assistance throughout
the years. May you continue to provide assistance and comfort for
your colleagues and their families.
Regards and best wishes to all
Kyle Underdown
Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to
my retirement from SAPOL. My last day of service is March 7, 2004.
I do thank the association for its continuous and tireless efforts
for all members.
After 39 years with SAPOL, I take with me many lifelong experiences
and memories.
I feel privileged to have worked with so many wonderful people and
thank them for their friendship along the way.
I sincerely thank the “speedies” for their loyalty, commitment, and
friendship. Maintain your sense of humour and culture you have built
up over the years.
Good luck and best wishes to all SAPOL members. Stay safe.
Kind regards
