Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association effective
from November 11, 2003.
I have decided to take a job opportunity interstate.
As a member of the Band of the South Australia Police for the past
five years, I have been witness to some very monumental reforms for
the unit. My sincerest thanks go to you and Mark Carroll for assisting
the band with the ride on the industrial wave.
I also thank the members of the band for providing a great wealth
of knowledge, which I am sure I will build on, and friendship over
this time.
I hope that SAPOL continues to realize what a fantastic unit it
has in the band and that the good work it carries out will remain
impossible to prove statistically forever.
I wish you all the very best for the future.
Yours sincerely
Constable A Barnett

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South
Australia due to my resignation from SAPOL on December 2, 2003.
I have taken a position in public relations with the Heart Foundation
(South Australia division).
Thank you to all those I have met over the last 7.5 years, especially
to those who have offered their support and friendship. Working in
SAPOL has been a rewarding experience and I have learnt many skills
that I will take with me into my new career.
Cheers

Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to
my resignation from SAPOL, my last day being December 17, 2003.
I wish to thank all those who have taken the time to pass on their
knowledge to me, whether at patrols in Adelaide, Hindley St, Plympton,
or at STAR Operations. I leave with a lot of good memories of the
old Hindley St and RU4 days.
For what it’s worth, I eagerly await the time when the SAPOL hierarchy
decides enough traffic fines have been issued to mums and dads, and
that it is time to make a concerted effort in dealing with organized
criminals/OMCGs who are already entrenched in our communities.
Fudge the figures all you like, but these groups don’t get the attention
they deserve, given the crimes to which they directly or indirectly
contribute. SEG, what are you waiting for?
I also thank the association for its assistance in the past and
encourage it to work hard for the general patrols, as well as the
specialist areas.
Regards
Darryl Armour
Snr Const 1214/4
Operations Section
STAR Group
G’day Andy
There comes the time when one must finally hand back the motorbike
keys, put away the alcolmeter and see what life beyond SAPOL has to
offer.
I have seen a few resignation letters which have been fairly bitter
and given the department and its hierarchy a serve. However, I’m probably
fairly lucky that I’ve slid through 41-plus years without too many
dramas. I acknowledge the time and effort put in by the full-time
staff and all of the other reps.
The job is certainly far harder and more complex today than it was
when I joined and, sadly, very little seems to occur to make it any
easier. The “kids” and their supervisors at the pointy end of this
department (both traffic and general patrols) have my unending admiration
for the job they do, as do some of our support staff (particularly
those once graced by the title of WPA). I will truly miss the company
of so many friends.
December 17 I’ll have cracked it for 60 years old and I’ll join the
ranks of the police pensioners, so please accept this as my resignation
from the Police Association.
Very best wishes to all
Ken Cocks
Senior Sgt 0539/1
Sturt Traffic

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, due to
my retirement, effective January 1, 2004. After almost 33 years’ service
in SAPOL, I am keen to pursue other employment before it’s too late.
I have a position with Penfolds, Nuriootpa. Thanks to you and the
Police Association for your good work for members, and for producing
a great journal.
SAPOL has probably seen more changes in the last 30 years than in
its entire history before then. One thing that shouldn’t change is
the need to have police out there in the community, in cars, on bikes,
riding horses and walking the beat.
SAPOL management has done a wonderful job in recent years in taking
us into the 21st century, to keep abreast of an ever-changing society.
It seems to me though that, in the last 20 years or so, the focus
has shifted slightly, from providing the best police service to the
community, to the development of the individual member: to do the
right courses; be on the right projects and at the right sections;
to gain promotion.
I very much enjoyed my first 17 years in city patrols and country
stations, and 13 years in Elizabeth CJS, despite some difficult times
in the latter area. Thanks to all I’ve worked with, and all the best
for the future. Special farewell to the remaining members and instructors
of Course 35 – see you at the next reunion.

Dear Andy
I am writing to notify you of my resignation from SAPOL, effective

with over the years.

Dear Andy
I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association effective
January 2, 2004, as this is my last day of service with SAPOL.
I thank Sergeant Glyn Jones for all his assistance and support throughout
the time that we have worked together. You are the most highly motivated
supervisor within the Elizabeth LSA and your enthusiasm is infectious.
I can only hope that I can aspire to lead as you do, by example and
without fear.
To all my mates on Team 5, Elizabeth, and Team 5, Salisbury, it
has been my privilege to work with such a great bunch of coppers,
who are keen to get stuck in and not afraid to get their hands dirty.
I knew I could depend on each of you to jump straight in without hesitation
when things went pear-shaped. I will take away with me some great
memories, and I hope that we will stay in touch.
For those of you who know me, no doubt this letter will come as a
surprise. I have decided on a change of career, hopefully something
involving fewer scars as a commissioned officer with the Royal Australian
Navy. If anyone wants to drop me a line, you can send an e-mail to
david.connelly@defence.gov.au.

Dear Andy
Please accept this as my resignation from the Police Association
due to my resignation from SAPOL effective January 8, 2004.
I leave with great memories of working alongside some wonderful
people from course 145, through the Mounted Cadre, B1, Bank St beats,
Darlington and Christies patrols, Darlington/Sturt and South Coast
CIB and, last, South Coast Intel. Thank you all for putting up with
me, and the great experiences I take with me.
In particular, I thank all those people I had the honour of working
with over the last three years at Christies Beach. I am still sure
that outsiders have no concept of how well that team comes together
to get the job done under immense pressure, despite their lack of
resources. It was a pleasure working with you, and thank you all for
the constant support you gave me as a supervisor.
As for me, I had hoped to return to SAPOL. However, after 17 years
of reasonable service, HR declined my application for 12 weeks LWOP
and, due to family commitments, I was unable to return in their timeframe.
I am now in Victoria having married a local and I’m discovering the
real meaning of hard work, trying to make a living out of our horses.
Goodbye and good luck
