Mixed fours

The SA Police Bowling Club held a mixed fours day at the Payneham Bowling Club in early November last year. The winner of the winners section was the team of Edie Dodson (lead), Keith Jones (second), Daphne Cooper (third) and Trevor Gregory (skip). The team of Heather Barry (lead), Danny Dahlitz (second), June Dahlitz (third) and Rob Wilson (skip) won the losers section.

Championship singles

SAPBC members competed in the club singles championship at Holdfast Bay Bowling Club in mid-November last year. In warm conditions under a sunny sky, some interesting contests loomed in the knock-out rounds.

Accordingly, some good bowling and tough competition emerged, along with some interesting results throughout the day. In the end, it got down to the last four players who will compete in the final on Sunday, March 14, just before the SAPBC season closing day. Competing in the club championship singles play-off will be Col Davies against Nick Zuvich. Rex Heins will battle Lyall Savage in the championship singles plate play-off.

Club fours

The SAPBC took part in the bi-annual shield competition at the West Croydon & Kilkenny Bowling Club in late November last year. The ageing membership of the West Croydon & Kilkenny Bowling Club is particularly small and can only support one pennant team on Saturdays. It was therefore a great effort for the club to arrange five teams to compete against the SAPBC. The night’s results were:

  • Karen Grandfield, Ivan Doering, Graham Boyer, Nick Zuvich 26 – 6
  • Ken Wardle, Keith Jones, Lyall Savage, Trevor Gregory 24 – 13
  • Peter Carroll, Bryan Dowling, Ian Matters, John McKnight 19 – 7
  • Peter Dwyer, Lindsay Yeo, Frank Atkinson, Graham Wakefield 14 – 14
  • Danny Dahlitz, Ken Furnell, Frank Holden, John Morris 13 – 16
  • Total 96 – 56

The SAPBC triumphed, retained the shield for another two years, and hopes to compete against the West Croydon & Kilkenny Bowling Club again in 2005.

Mixed fours

The SAPBC played in a mixed fours competition at the Hope Valley Bowling Club in early December last year. With clear blue skies and a slight, cooling breeze, the weather was for once on the players’ side.

As well as SAPBC members, representatives from such clubs as Hope Valley, Payneham and Grange supported the event. The day proved successful for the SAPBC, both on and off the greens. The winner of the losers section was the team of Karen Grandfield (lead), Wayne Grandfield (second,) Cos Cavaiuolo (third) and R Snelling (skip).

The team of Gwen Howie (lead), Janet Jones (second), John Jones (third) and Howard Herde (skip) won the winners section.

Club fours

The SAPBC faced up to its annual battle against Bowls SA (formerly RSABA) at the Clearview Bowling Club in mid-December last year. Both the male and female members of the Bowls SA executive made themselves available for the night. Results of the night’s match appear below.
