A submission to the
Select Committee of the Legislative Council on the
staffing, resourcing and efficiency of the South Australia Police
The Police Association has now provided its submission to the select
committee.
In preparing its submission, the association consulted extensively
with its members – it represents their views.
The association anticipates that it will begin to make oral presentations
to the committee in the near future.
The submission covers a wide range of issues, including:
- Staffing.
- Crime trends.
- Workforce trends and planning.
- Recruitment and in-service training resources.
- Selection and promotion processes and policies.
- De-centralization of prosecution.
- Rural policing.
- Police discipline.
- Police equipment.
Unfortunately, SAPOL’s failure to adequately staff the LSA structure
is a recurring theme throughout the submission, as is the lack of
appropriate human-resource management policies and practices.
The association looks forward to the committee bringing down its
findings.
Recommendations that emerge from the select committee can play a
significant role in influencing present and future state governments
in providing appropriate strategic planning for South Australia Police
for the years to come.
I thank those members who provided information to the association
to enable it to present a full and comprehensive submission to the
select committee.
I advise that they will be provided access to the full submission
after its formal tabling in the parliament.
