Meeting
Sixty-two Retired Police Officers Association members attended their
monthly meeting in Fenwick Hall on November 6, and were welcomed by
President Les Morris. Entertainment officer Pat Mitchell works diligently
to provide a varied and interesting afternoon for the members. Dianne
from Bag Promotions provided the meeting with entertainment.
This couple has perfected a business which allows for the sale of
various articles at prices cheaper than those of many retailers. The
articles include everything from groceries and laundry products to
soft toys. Members were eager to purchase.
Picnic
The committee was disappointed with the attendance at its annual
picnic. Eighty-eight arrived, but many more had indicated their intention
to attend. As a consequence, the club over-catered.
Members should in future remember that if they cannot attend a function,
they should make appropriate apologies to a committee member. In this
case, apologies should have been made to Rae Holloway. Members who
did attend enjoyed the event. Charlie Rumbelow, with his willing helpers
from the Police Credit Union, once again served as chef.
In the event of wet weather, future picnics will still proceed,
as permission has been granted for members to use the academy gym
in case of October rain.
Trips
Randall Kellas has expressed disappointment at the lack of support
for the proposed trip to Broken Hill, especially in light of the enthusiastic
response at the previous meeting. So far, only eight members have
indicated their interest.
New members
The RPOA welcomes Malcolm Hill, Thomas Rowbottom and Kurt Wehner
as new members.
Vale
The RPOA extends its sympathy to the families of Dorothy Attenborough,
Raymond Matthews, Gordon Norcock, Alfred Williams and Frank Whitrod.
