Meeting

Fifty Retired Police Officers Association members attended their monthly meeting in Fenwick Hall on October 2, and were welcomed by President Les Morris. The meeting’s guest speaker was Podiatrist Ada Gerrie, who provided valuable information and suggestions on foot care.

RPOA trips organizer, Randall Kellas, informed the meeting of his intention to arrange a trip to Broken Hill. With his plan dependant on member interest, a strong show of hands emerged to give Randall the go-ahead.

He has suggested the trip take place in May next year, and that members with rail passes could score free travel. Updates on the arrangements will be available to members at future meetings.

Regional news

Twenty-nine members (including wives) and guests from the Moonta police station attended Kym Boxall’s first meeting and luncheon, which he held at the Royal Hotel, Moonta. Ern Sparrow received a special welcome as the oldest member present. Ray and Rae Holloway attended on behalf of the RPOA. The next meeting will be held at the Weeroona Hotel, Wallaroo, on Thursday December 4.

Dinner

Rae Holloway expects all payments for the RPOA’s November 20 dinner to be finalized well before the event. Where possible, this should occur no later than November 6.

Annual subs

The RPOA again requests those members who pay their $15.60 subs annually to do so as soon as possible. Payments should be made to Don O’Doherty of 3 Margaret Court, Melrose Park, 5039.

Those members who wish to contact the RPOA president or secretary should contact:

  • Les Morris (president) at 11 Woodhurst Avenue, Hyde Park, 5061 (Ph: 8272 4474).
  • Ray Williams (secretary) at 2 Regent Avenue, Clovelly Park, 5042 (Ph: 8299 0664).

Vale

The RPOA extends it deepest sympathy to the families of Maureen Menadue, Peter Burnley, Dickie Bartlett and Wallace (Wally) Budd.

Memorial service

A small number of retired members attended the National Police Remembrance Day memorial service at Fort Largs on Monday, Sept 29. The congregation remembered those officers killed in the line of duty. Those of us who retired unscathed should remember that, but for the grace of God, it could have been one of us.

New members

The RPOA welcomes William Scott and Philip Merchant.
