Personal security of police personnel
The endless risks that police officers face on the street are well-known
– not only to them, of course, but also the wider community. Not often
publicized, however – and therefore much less understood – is that
police also face the off-duty dilemma of offender intimidation.
Cases have come to light in recent times of criminals – aggrieved
without justification – accessing public records to discover the home
addresses and other personal details of police. To address this intolerable
situation, I have written to Police Minister Kevin Foley in the following
terms.
