Meeting

Fifty-two Retired Police Officers Association members attended their annual general meeting in Fenwick Hall in July. Re-elected to the executive group were:

  • Les Morris (president).
  • Lex Teague (vice-president).
  • Ray Williams (secretary).
  • Bev Schemmell (assistant secretary).
  • Don O’Doherty (treasurer).
  • Tom Zacher (welfare officer).

The five committee members elected were Rae Holloway, Mary Renfrey, Ray Holloway, Pat Mitchell and Randall Kellas. Rob Thomson stood down after 11 years in office and members applauded his efforts as a club participant.

Annual subs

Members who pay their subs annually are reminded that the $15.60 is now due and payable to Don O’Doherty at 3 Margaret Court, Melrose Park, 5039.

Picnic and dinner

Bookings for the RPOA picnic (Oct 19) and the annual dinner (Nov 20) are now being taken. Only Rae Holloway will take bookings, on 8556 6787. No other committee members will be responsible for bookings.

Graduation

President Les Morris presented Course 49 graduate, Probationary Constable Jade Burns, with the RPOA trophy at Fort Largs on June 18.

New members

The RPOA welcomes Ken Ninnis, Alex Mischin and Keith Stevens (associate). President Morris encourages all retirees to join the association, either at the time of their retirement or later. Members now enjoy such privileges as those offered to full members of the Police Association of SA.

They were: Henk Browning, Ron Blight, Bob Wescombe, Bob Morris, Alan Sly, Frank Patterson, Kevin Waterman, John Giles, Geoff Browne, Stan Swaine, Morrice Stanford, Brian O’Goerk, Gary Cornish, Neta Thorogood, Mary Stewart, Gladys Peaks, Alice Nation, Ethel Gill, Ethel Collins, Kit Dillon, Elizabeth Keough and, more recently, Bill Jeffree.
