Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due
to my resignation from SAPOL, my last day of service being May 25, 2003. I have
decided to accept an offer from SA Ambulance Service to become a student
ambulance officer. After two years of on-the-job training, I will qualify as a
paramedic.
I wish to thank the association for its efforts to support
the members. In particular, my thanks to yourself and Tommy Scheffler.
The decision to leave the job was a difficult one for me. As I
look back, I have gained valuable experience, knowledge and, above all else,
friendship. I therefore see little point in publicly criticizing the job. Yes,
I have seen my share of testing politics and bureaucracy. But the occupation is
still challenging, rewarding and character-building. If asked would I do it
again, the answer would be yes.
I wish all members good luck in the job. I particularly wish
to thank those I have worked with personally from Murray Bridge and Sturt
patrols, Southern and Northern Motorcycle sections, Traffic Operations Unit and
Escort Section.
I have met so many wonderful people over the last few years I
would be unable to mention everybody I now consider a friend. I hope to see
many of you out on the road sometime hope you recognize me dressed in
green. If youre passing on the freeway, please call around home for a
coffee.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of
SA due to my retirement from SAPOL, last day of service being July 9, 2003.
After 38 years with SAPOL, I take with me many wonderful
memories and experiences that I will always cherish. I was winched in and out
of helicopters, abseiled over cliffs, rescued drowning people, exchanged
gunfire with a felon, searched the outback for murder victims, missing persons,
escapees and armed offenders, had a cuppa with Fergy and met the Pope. So I
believe I had my fair share of excitement. My most memorable experience was
that of working with Aboriginal tracker, Jimmy James, and witnessing his unique
artistry in the craft of tracking.
Having served 23 years in the Dog Patrol Section (Dog
Operations Unit) as dog handler and finally as training officer, it was always
my ambition to retire from the job that I lived for. Thanks to Focus 21 this
did not eventuate.
I thank members at Holden Hill CIB for their loyal support
and friendship over the past three-and-a-half years. Its people like them
who kept me going as long as I did and I guess thats what Ill miss
most about the job.
Thank you to members of the Police Association of SA for their
efforts in providing better working conditions for all SAPOL members. Keep up
the good work.
Good luck and best wishes to all SAPOL members. Keep safe.
