An easy and convenient way to submit your tax return is by
e-tax 2003. It is available free from the ATO. Tax returns generally take only
14 days to process. e-tax is available from July 1, 2003. For more information,

Work-related deductions
While you dont need receipts if your deductions for
work-related expenses are less than $301, you must be able to show how they
relate to your income and how you calculated the amount claimed.
Helpful hints
- Double check your name, tax file number, date of birth, and
your return is signed (if paper lodgement).
- Collect all payment summaries if you have worked for more
than one employer.
- Check that Reportable Fringe Benefits are shown on the
payment summary.
- Declare share dividends and any capital gains from sales of
shares.
- Include Interest and Government allowances if
received.
- The cost of purchasing, repairing and laundering uniform is
deductible.
- Most donations and gifts are deductible. For confirmation,
check the receipt or contact the organization.
- If claiming the family tax benefit (FTB) return you must
lodge your 2003 FTB claim form with or after the 2003 return but before June
30, 2004.
- Remember the Medicare levy surcharge question is
compulsory.
- Your private health fund will send a letter showing the
health fund identification code. This is to be included if you are to claim the
30 per cent rebate or an exemption from the Medicare levy surcharge.
