PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE STAFFING, RESOURCING AND EFFICIENCY OF THE SOUTH AUSTRALIA POLICE

The Police Association has been advised that the Legislative Council of State Parliament has established a select committee to consider and report on the staffing, resourcing and efficiency of SAPOL, with particular reference to:


a) resource utilisation;

b) rural policing;

c) the need for, and allocation of, minimum staffing levels;

d) effectiveness of recruitment and retention of police personnel;

e) recruitment and in-service training resources and requirements;

f) selection and promotion processes and policies;

g) adequacy and standard of equipment;

h) mechanisms for dealing with internal complaints;

i) prosecution;

j) the role of police in and the adequacy of crime prevention    programmes throughout South Australia; and

k) other relevant matters.

The association will make submissions to the select committee on behalf of all members and has engaged Mr John Spoehr of the Centre for Labour Research, University of Adelaide, to assist in the preparation of the PASA submission.

A meeting of delegates will be held to discuss the association submission and provide feedback from the membership.

Members who require information regarding their status, rights and obligations in relation to making submissions or appearing before the select committee should contact the association directly.
