In 2003

The SA Police Motorcycle Club committee met early this year and, through Comsec Greg Trickett, has organized some great rides for 2003. The club will offer a mix for both road- and dirt-riders, as well as social events for members and their families.

Brenton Inglis has this year assumed the role of club secretary, while ex-speedie and long-time bike club member, Al Coffey, has volunteered for the treasurer’s job. Matt Nairne continues this year to plan and run road rides, the first of which ran in late March.

Membership/sponsorship

The committee has decided to waive its $20 annual membership fee this year, for both existing and new members. The committee hopes to increase membership from all areas of SAPOL, including recruits.

Clear from inquiries in late 2002 was that many people harbour a strong motorcycle interest. Those people should contact any committee member and receive the benefits the club has to offer.

The club has again secured Peter Stevens Motorcycles as its major sponsor which, again, has offered members substantial discounts on parts and accessories.

Events... dirt

Coming dirt rides for this year include camp-aways at the Coorong, Coonalpyn and the major weekend at the Big Desert National Park, just over the border in Victoria.

Day trail rides are also planned for various regions, including Kapunda, Murray Bridge and southern areas. Club members will again attend the Australian Thumper Nats titles at Mannum, where they will watch the best Australia has to offer.

Greg Trickett has secured the Monarto property for the Peter Stevens ride day on May 11. It is a great opportunity for dirt-riders to test new bikes, which Peter Stevens will provide on the day. This event was a great success last year.

...road

For shift workers, Matt Nairne plans to run a road ride at least once a month, and weekday rides. The rides will cover areas both north and south of the city.

Club members have in the past attended and enjoyed the Phillip Island Superbikes and 500cc GP events. The committee hopes club members might this year return there as part of an organized event.

Interest has also been shown in attending the Australian Superbike Championships at Mallala later this year.

The committee has planned a family day and will provide a free barbecue for members. This is most likely to be an afternoon barbecue following an early-morning ride for both road- and dirt-riders.
