PASA branch structure

The 2002 annual conference of Police Association delegates moved to establish a restructuring working party, which would recommend changes to the delegate and branch structures. Meetings to date have identified the need to flatten the structure so the separation between conference and workplace delegates is combined.

Some branches will be deleted with those workplaces being aligned to other branches. The branch titles will be for administrative purposes with the focus being on issues at the workplace level.

This should assist members and clear the confusion that currently exists in the present structure.

Delegates will meet shortly to debate the proposed new structure.

Country housing

The country housing rental agreement expires in November this year. PASA has sought discussions with the Minister for Administrative Services, Jay Weatherill, to negotiate a new agreement.

The PASA committee of management has determined policy regarding depot housing. PASA believes that depot housing should be redefined and rent-free. PASA will lobby for the reintroduction of the government local allocation committees and to achieve a minimum government housing standard. Assistant Secretary Tom Scheffler is the designated association representative for country housing issues and is available to assist members with disputes arising from provision or otherwise of government housing.

Face to face

Association staff are available to talk to members at training days, overnight stays at Echunga, courses etc. If you would like to be briefed “face-to-face” on current issues, then don’t hesitate to contact us. SAPOL has been supportive in allowing PASA staff access to members in departmental time, on the proviso it does not interfere with operational requirements or allocated training periods. Always inform your local managers if you have invited PASA staff to address your workgroup. And PASA staff can be flexible with scheduling.

Enterprise bargaining round 4

The fourth round of enterprise bargaining is fast approaching. The last instalment (4 per cent) of EA 2001 is payable from the first pay week commencing on or after June 30, 2003. The first wage increase in the next enterprise agreement will apply from July 1, 2004. The association is in the process of preparing a members’ claim. Feel free to drop me a line on matters you believe should be progressed, or speak to your local delegate.
