Journal award
The RPOA congratulates the staff of the Police Journal for the great honour they received in the UTLC award for Best Publication of 2002.
Annual dinner
Commissioner Mal Hyde was the guest of honour at the RPOA annual dinner, which 107 members attended at the Police Club on November 21.
Meeting
Sixty-seven RPOA members attended their final meeting of 2002. From the decorations to the Christmas fare prepared and served by the ladies auxiliary the occasion was very festive. Those present received a surprise gift and the bar was opened for one hour.
Trips
Vice-president Lex Teague received enthusiastic support from members when he outlined the commitment he would need for future day bus trips to be a going concern. As a consequence, the bus will leave the club at 9am and travel to Mt Barker, Strathalbyn, Goolwa and Victor Harbor on Tuesday March 18. The cost excludes lunch, which will be individual choice to enable travellers to browse around the various towns.
The committee is currently planning a luncheon for RPOA members to be held at Port Augusta. The tentative date is Thursday May 15, 2003. Members in that area will receive invitations in due course.
New members
The RPOA welcomes new members and invites them to its meetings, held on the first Thursday of each month. Among the new members are Mostyn Geue, Richard Laslett, Dale Burford, Jeffrey Kempster, Christopher Chamberlain and Michael Akeroyd.
Vale
The RPOA extends its sincere sympathy to the families of John Giles and Florence Thorogood.
Graduation
President Les Morris presented the RPOA trophy to Probationary Constable Tobias Witthoeft at the graduation of course 46 on Wednesday, December 4, 2002.
Subscriptions
Twenty-eight members who pay subscriptions annually have not done so for this financial year. Of those 28, each should forward the $15.60 fee as soon as possible to avoid the costly postage of 50¢, which comes out of club funds.
