Did you know?
The Police Club of SA is the oldest member-owned and -managed police club in Australia. Its history goes back to 1961, when some forward-thinking police officers decided they wanted something for the future. Part of their charter was a facility that provided a place of rest and recreation for members. The club has maintained that charter. Next time you are out drinking at a pub, have a look around and see where your money is going. Support the club today for the future.
Tough times
As most of you are by now aware, the club has like some other parts of the hospitality industry recently fallen on tough times.
The committee has been working in conjunction with consultants and experts in the financial and hospitality fields to maintain the clubs service to customers.
To maintain the future viability of the club, and safeguard the interests of the members of the Police Association, some decisions had to be made. These decisions were made neither lightly nor easily.
The changes that will occur are effective as of the close of business on Friday January 17, 2003. They are that:
- Associate membership will cease to exist one is no longer required to be a member to enjoy the clubs facilities.
- The catering operation (restaurant) will cease.
- The bar and gaming room trading hours will be from midday to 8pm Monday to Friday, unless prior arrangements are made with the manager.
If you have already booked a function, club manager, Trevor, will be in contact with you to discuss your needs.
If you are planning an after-work farewell or a special function, the Police Club is still able to cater to your needs. A simple phone call to Trevor on 8212 2924 will get you started.
Thank you
On behalf of the committee and patrons, I thank the kitchen staff: head chef, Tony Coyne, Marie Bakes (nine years service), Jill McCallum (with the club since 1980), and the apprentices. We wish them all the best for their futures and thank them for their dedication and professional approach to the service of Police Club patrons.
Good luck, Dave
Past committee member and stalwart, Dave Paxon, is retiring after a long and colourful career with SAPOL. The Police Club committee, staff and members wish Dave all the best in retirement and hope to see him around the club.
