Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my retirement from SAPOL on July 24, 2002, after almost 35 years service. I will, however, remain a member of the Retired Members Group.
I thank the many members I have worked with and socialized with, particularly those members from the old Darlington, Plympton and Glenelg patrol bases.
A special mention to retired Constable Brenton Triplow you not only saved your partners life but your actions probably prevented serious injury to other members present (myself included). Thank you.
I appreciate the concerns of other serving and retired members (including a handful of senior officers) who contacted and supported me during my absence over the past two years. Thanks to my old team at Glenelg, and to Paul, Jim and Dennis, and to retired members Grant and Leith for your counselling sessions. I also mention those members attached to Rehabilitation and Claims sections who handled my claims and queries in such an efficient manner.
Last but definitely not least, thanks to you, Andy, Peter, Mark and all other staff at the Police Association for your support. I never thought I would need your assistance until a certain incident in July 99. Your support, guidance and advice were very much appreciated, especially the provision of highly competent legal counsel (Morry Bailes of Tindall Gask Bentley) who counselled and represented me over the following months.
To all those members I have worked with over the years, goodbye and good luck in your future endeavours.
Yours sincerely
Geoff House

Dear Andy
It is a feeling of somewhat a loss having to resign from the Police Association due to my retirement from SAPOL. My last shift was on August 25, 2002, followed by some leave that was due.
Many years as a delegate were very enjoyable, legendary comrades emerged as well as some also legendary socializing.
The efforts of the association in looking after the troops in times of personal crisis are also legendary, as well as gaining improvement in conditions for all.
Thanks for the good times and good luck for the future.
Regards
Brian Brealey

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL effective September 8, 2002.
I was very fortunate to have been asked earlier this year to consider accepting a position as a loss adjuster with one of Australias largest loss adjusting providers. With the benefit of time, I have had the opportunity to consider the offer in great detail and have accepted the position, which I commenced on September 9, 2002.
Having been a police officer for 16 years, I had come to realize that it was time to make a major change in my life in the interests of my family and myself. I was not prepared to enter the promotion-and-appeal arena, nor was I desirous of becoming an officer of police. My opportunities had become somewhat limited and I was uncertain where I would end up.
I am proud of my achievements in SAPOL and hold the organization in high regard. I have had many memorable experiences, played many practical jokes and met some of the most genuine and decent people one could ever expect to meet. I will continue to talk to people about my experiences and will recommend SAPOL as an incredible journey in life for those prepared to take the challenge.
I thank everyone I have worked with during my time and the Police Association for its excellent work. I thank all members of course 145, especially my wife, Tracey, who, together with my two children, have given me the drive and reason for moving on.
I thank three of the most professional and genuine friends I have had the pleasure of working with for many years at my various postings. They are Vic Anderson (now at Port CIB) Jenny McDermott (now at Sexual Assault Section) and Cameron Georg (now at the Majors). Working with you was an absolute pleasure and made coming to work so easy. Thank you.
Lastly, I thank the staff and managers at ACB for making my last five months in SAPOL so enjoyable. I was fortunate to have been seconded to ACB earlier this year. For those of you who would like to work in a professional environment with experienced and dedicated members, I recommend ACB. Contrary to popular belief, ACB investigates all members of the public sector, including police on the odd occasion.
Best wishes and thanks for the memories.
Yours sincerely

Dear Andy
After more than 30 years in the army and police, its time to move on and put the body back in sync with the spinning of the planet. My last day of service is September 16, 2002. I wish the Police Association and its members every success for the future.
With thanks

Dear Andy
Please accept this as my resignation from SAPOL and PASA, my last day of service was September 27, 2002. I have accepted a position with the Office of Recreation and Sport as the boxing and martial arts compliance officer.
After 12 years with SAPOL, the last seven years in Port Pirie and the last 18 months with the Criminal Justice Section, I am now saying farewell. I have made so many friends, had so many laughs and shared so many memories.
So it is with some sadness that I leave the job and move onward and upward. Thank you to everyone who has helped my development in the last 12 years, especially everyone at the Port Pirie police station. Im not going to name everyone or Ill be here all night, but you know who you are.
If you are in town, give me a ring and well have a drink. After all, a mans not a camel.

Dear Andy
I have read many pages in The Last Shift, seen many come and go over 41 years and decided it is now time. Please accept my resignation due to my retirement on October 16, 2002. In my lifetime of country policing, I have certainly enjoyed the friendship, support and camaraderie of fellow police officers and administration staff. Thanks to the Police Association for its stalwart support for its members.
Sincerely
Dale Burford

Dear Andy
After very nearly 42 years of continuous employment in SAPOL, my last day of service will be Friday October 18, 2002. I also have to love and leave the Police Association. Although never very active in association affairs, I have always greatly appreciated that, without the efforts of the active members, I would not have enjoyed/endured such a long career, and the far above average retirement benefits. My sincere thanks therefore to all association workers, past as well as present.
I thank everyone with whom I have worked. That is a huge number who have cared and shared in my life. They enriched it so that even the difficult days were untaxed entertainment. Of course, there were a few times of discord, for which let my mea culpa be the first.
On the far heavier side of the scales, I take with me a wonderful sense of community and the impossibility of naming all those who gave me years of friendship and support. I hope they found me to be a mate. Through patrol bases, Breath Analysis Section, Prosecution Services and, especially in recent years, the traffic groups, my daily companions gave me a great life. I have things yet to do but I will miss and remember with affection the privileged time now closing. I know I will still get the spontaneous smile and wave occasionally. If I dont return it, come and take my pulse.
I will probably pester Senior Constable Peter M for news and make him feed my addiction for a good bitching session.
Besides Peter and all my family, whose love made this journey possible, there is another community which has made life worth living. I shall remember you all, not for the first time, when I join that community in prayer. May God bless you all through you, He has certainly blessed me.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association of South Australia, due to my resignation from SAPOL, my last day of service with SAPOL being November 1, 2002.
After 25 years with SAPOL, I am very happy to announce that I am off to be a fat cat with the South Australian public service, having been the successful applicant for the position of risk management adviser to the Emergency Services Administration Unit (AS07). My primary responsibility will be working with SAMFS, CFS, SAAS and SES on a number of strategic, administrative and operational risks, travelling across South Australia and interstate, and I am very much looking forward to the challenges and rewards that this position will bring.
While I will not dwell on the fact that I have been very disappointed and frustrated in my many failed attempts to gain promotion within SAPOL (hence my decision to look outside the organization), this disappointment and frustration has now been overshadowed by the exciting prospect now before me.
In the main, I have worked with a lot of great people, to whom I sincerely wish all the best for the future. I also believe that it is also time to appropriately recognize and reward those long-term (and I emphasize long-term) serving operational members, who continue to do one of the hardest and most stressful jobs of all. I particularly wish all of you the best.
Thats it from me. Cheers to all.
