Dear Andy
I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association effective January 16, 2002, that being my last day of service with SAPOL.
Well, Ive been spat at, punched, kicked, poked, prodded, sworn at, charged, commended, criticized, crashed, wrestled, grumpy, tired, drunk, laughed at and laughed with, cried, chased, stressed, interstate, hospitalized, interviewed and photographed, bogged, rescued, shot at and even had a spear chucked at me.
Ive had my hair shaved off and my pants pulled down. I escorted the Torch, flew over the Simpson and got pissed in the Birdsville Pub. Ive pursued at 200-plus-kph and Ive escorted houses at 5kph. Ive been in the middle of nowhere, where no man has ever been before, and Ive been at the Royal Show, where you cant move for people everywhere.
Ive experienced the highs and the lows and every emotion known. Does all this prepare me for life as a civilian? Probably not, but most of it has been bloody good fun and I wouldnt have missed it for all the tea in China.
Im moving on now to the public service as a community development officer with Outback Areas Community Development Trust. I have a four-wheel-drive, fuel card and an area that truly is bigger than Belgium.
To the friends I have made, I will keep in touch and will see you around the outback. To Andy and the association thank you for all you have done for me, especially since July last year, although not resolved, your efforts have been comforting to me and my family and have reassured us that the future is not all doom and gloom.
To the management: a modern, motivated, progressive police service needs to hear a thank you every now and again. Trust me. It will do wonders for morale.
Thanks for the memories. Goodbye and good luck.

Sometimes its like fighting a war
Just when you think youve seen it all
Theres more
Civil War,
War amongst the people.
Racial War,
Between the people.
Services that hinder our cause
There is no end.
Like a big storm brewing
I see houses full of women and children
Hungry, cold, abused
There may be love
There is no respect.
Petitions, riots, domestics
Who is there to see it?
To feel it!
How do we find accomplishment?
Paperwork, typing, procedures
Verbal and physical abuse
Salvation
As you turn to your partner,
Your team
And embrace the fact you survived. To all members of course 6, team one Adelaide patrols, Whyalla and team two ComCen: it has been emotional.
I choose to resign from the South Australia Police effective March 6, 2002. There is only one corner of the universe I can be certain of improving and healing thats myself.
All great and inspiring things

Dear Andy
I hereby tender my resignation from the Police Association effective as of March 27, due to my resignation from SAPOL on the grounds of invalidity.
I must thank a group of people who have stood by me and helped me no end.
Craig, Bernie, Wally and Barry who let me keep the little bit of dignity I had left, and made me feel the 26 years of service actually meant something.
To the Rehab Unit I am so indebted. Hutch, Vicki, Kim, Angela, Doreen and Lisa. I live in hope that one day the average member will realize the huge amount of work you do. I have been in your office on so many occasions when you have received offensive phone calls because a bill hadnt been paid or theres been a mistake in some ones pay.
(The stupid thing is that most of the time its not Rehabs fault and if you sit down and talk it through, the problem will be worked out. Slogan: without these people working for you on your behalf your life will be hell.)
To Human Resources, make the effort and thank the staff of Rehab for what they do and the professional way in which they do it.
To Michael Hogg at Police Superannuation, thank you for the great advice. Nothing was too much trouble for you and you did your utmost to benefit both Helen and me. SAPOL members are very lucky to have you on board.
To all of team two Adelaide Traffic a special thanks for looking after my wife, Helen, during the last four years. Its been hell for her because of my situation. A great bunch of people that have always been there and from the bottom of my heart I believe always will be.
The hierarchy (if you have nothing constructive to say, say nothing ) Nothing.
Best of luck to all members in the future.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL effective March 27.
To all I have known over the past 20 years, I wish you good luck in the future (you will need it).
A special thanks to all the people at team two Adelaide Traffic. I have worked with some great people and will miss their friendship. You have not only been workmates but great friends. The coffee (and milk) is always here and ready. George, you were always there through the good times and the hard times, and there have been a few of them.
Thanks to Rehab Section for its help, time and understanding with Kyms injury.
It has been a hard decision but we have decided to move to Yorke Peninsula for a better life. Yes there is life after the police department.
Best of luck in the future.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL, my last day of service being April 15, 2002.
No doubt some of your readers will be puzzled by my decision to leave SAPOL within 12 months of serving full-time. I occasionally wonder about the sense of the decision myself, however, it has been well thought through and I now feel comfortable with it. Only time will tell if it will be one of the best or worst decision I have ever made.
For those who are not aware, I have been actively involved in the development of a fish farm at Whyalla for the past eight years. Over the last 18 months I have been on an assortment of leave in order to have a more hands-on role in getting the business up and running and I will now be continuing in a full-time capacity as farm manager. Although it is still an incredibly high-risk venture, I am excited by its potential and am optimistic that it will ultimately be successful.
Like all people who have been in the job for considerable time, I have many memories to take with me, not to mention the life-long friendships that have been forged along the way. To all members with whom I have had the pleasure of working over the years goodbye, good luck and eat more fish.
Phil Hart
Sergeant 2164/5
Whyalla
