Meetings

Sixty Retired Police Officers Association members attended their monthly meetings in Fenwick Hall during February and March 2002. RPOA president, Les Morris, welcomed all who attended.

At the February meeting, retired police officer, Evelyn “Ginge” Walker, entertained members with an insight into her early life in Aberdeen. She migrated to South Australia, joined the police force, worked with Kate Cocks in the city and later went to the West Coast.

Ginge recently fractured her hip and is recuperating. We hope she returns to good health quickly.

Two Police Health members attended the March meeting and provided a rundown on matters pertinent to the fund and in the pipeline. These matters will be detailed in their news magazine for the information of all members.

Graduation

Vice-President Lex Teague presented the RPOA trophy for operational safety to Probationary Constable Jason Wallwork of course 37. At course 38’s graduation, President Morris presented the trophy to Probationary Constable Martin Potts.

Diary dates

Both the Anzac memorial service (Sunday April 21) and the RPOA annual picnic (Sunday, October 20) will be held at Fort Largs.

The RPOA annual dinner will be held on Thursday November 21 (6pm for 6:30pm) at the Police Club.

Scheduled for Thursday May 30 is a day trip to Wallaroo. The bus leaves from the Police Club at 8:30am sharp. The price – which should be paid to the treasurer no later than the May 2 RPOA meeting – is $29 per person.

Committee members will attend an RPOA meeting at Kadina on Thursday March 21.

Welfare

President Morris has advised that Commissioner Mal Hyde has formally approved the use of the SAPOL welfare officer in assisting retired interstate police officers. So, should such retired officers – or their spouses or partners – need urgent assistance while visiting SA, the welfare officer can now be called upon. A letter to this effect has been forwarded to all police associations.

Telephone numbers are supplied should contact be necessary. President Morris hopes other states will reciprocate.

Vale

The RPOA extends its sincere sympathy to the families of Paul Turner, Bob Potts and Sylvia Ryan.

New members

The RPOA welcomes new members Peter Stanford, Michael Miller, Rachael Murhpy, Peter Malpas, Thomas Hawthorn, Kym Boxall, Jim Litster, Brian Spencer and Joy Potts.

Coming entertainment

Coming entertainers include impersonator Wendy Gould (April), Arthur and Me (May) and David Fewster (June). The RPOA annual general meeting will be held in July.
