Monthly meeting

Forty-four Retired Police Officers Association members attended their monthly meeting on November 1. President Les Morris welcomed Mrs Bev Schemmell, wife of the late Barry Schemmell.

The duo Arthur and Me entertained members who, as usual, appreciated the performance.

Annual Picnic

The recent RPOA picnic went off without a hitch. The committee is grateful to the Police Credit Union and Police Club for their ongoing support, and the women who, in the kitchen, endlessly attend to food preparation and cleaning. Wayne Morris is also worthy of thanks for his commendable effort.

Financial members

Current financial RPOA members number 698, according to a recent check. This breaks down into 557 males and 141 females. Retired women police officers and widows make up the female section. All but four have membership fees drawn from their pensions. A small number pay annually.

Checks also reveal that 340 people receive the police pension and are not members of the RPOA. This figure breaks down into 154 males and 186 females. Of the females, none is the widow of a retired member.

All these people are registered with the Police Superannuation Fund and can be contacted. Officers who take the lump sum are no longer recorded in any way with the super fund. If these members do not join the RPOA or the Police Association retired members’ list, they cannot be contacted.

President Morris urges all retiring members to join the RPOA or the Police Association retired list, so contact can be made with them should the need arise.

Vale

The RPOA extends its sympathy to the family of Kipling Turner.

New Members

The RPOA welcomes new members, Ashleigh Gore and Trevor Quast.
