Dear Andrew
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my retirement after 42 years and five months service. During that time, the association has done a great job for members with improved conditions and salary.

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association, my last day of service being Monday, August 13, 2001.
I have seen the light and I m taking early retirement.
Good luck to those members still in the job who graduated from course 115 in 1974 from Thebarton barracks. They were good times. (Good old days, who said there was no such thing.)
Ive enjoyed my 20 years in traffic and those members Ive served with at Port Adelaide and Escorts.
I thank Peter and you for your assistance. Good luck to those still left in the job. Hope the time could only get better.
All the best for the future.

Dear Andy
Its my turn to quit SAPOL, so please accept my resignation from the Police Association, effective August 22, 2001.
Thanks for the good times. I remember them well, thanks to a long memory. Especially the party crew from Berri from a few years ago. If the rest of the job were that good, no one would ever leave.
But, after several false starts, this time Ive gone through with it and the department has made it easier. Now my only regrets are for my immediate colleagues who will suffer more workload in the short term due to further shortage, and that there are many fine people with whom I will lose contact.
After 24 years, I have changed direction completely. I will be the boss. My client base will be happy, decent people. And no more night shift.
My best wishes to all the good people in this job. You know who you are.
Regards
David Nancarrow

Dear Andy
I use this letter to advise you of my resignation from PASA. My last day of police service will be Friday, September 7, 2001.
During my 36 years, I have witnessed many changes and new developments. SAPOL is now better resourced, better trained and better funded than we were in the past. I commend PASA to keep up the good work.
I thank all members for their support and good companionship.

Dear Pete
The time has come after 42 years for me to say goodbye to my chosen career and retire, my last day of service being September 9, 2001. Although retiring from SAPOL, I will not be out to pasture and have a couple of things in mind that will keep me in the far north of the state.
To all the people I have worked with and all the friends I have made along the way, I say a fond farewell, it was impossible to catch up with all of them and say goodbye in person.
I have enjoyed my career. There have been a few hiccups along the way as is to be expected, but I leave with no regrets for the time I have spent as a copper. I have always been proud to be identified as a member of the South Australia Police, and have always striven to leave a good impression, both with the people I have worked with and the community at large.
I thank PASA sincerely for the assistance it gave me personally some years ago when I had a particularly troubling time, and have no qualms about recommending members to seek its assistance should they so desire.
For your help during my Redeployment of Resources Project, together with the rest of your staff, thanks. Being able to discuss matters openly certainly assisted to smooth the passage of many changes, and assisted to ease the fears of some of the members who were affected.
The job is st----d. How many times have you heard that? I first heard that expression 42 years ago and I can tell you its a fallacy. The police service is a good solid career. It has seen some changes, and some that are not palatable to everyone, but there is nothing more sure than change and we have to move with the times. When I hear people talking about the good old times and how bad it is now, I remind them that I have two daughters and a son-in-law in the job, and these are their good old times. Give them a chance to enjoy them.
I am going to miss the people, from the most junior to members of the senior executive group. I would therefore thank all of them for the support they have given me throughout my career.
Yours sincerely

I herein tender my resignation from the Police Association of SA due to retirement, my final day of service after 41-and-three-quarter years with SAPOL being October 17.
Much has been said, a lot in the negative vein, over the years in these columns. The truth is, the majority of members still enjoy the police service, and are members of an extremely large national and international fraternity.
SAPOL justly enjoys the highest reputation within Australia, and a considerable number of people at all levels have contributed to this reputation over many years. I simply say, be proud of the uniform that we wear. Pay and conditions will always be harder to fight for and I know that the association will continue this fight.
I leave with many good memories and thanks to the people who have made them possible, particularly at Elizabeth, over many years.
I have spent the past three years involved with other members of the Sports Federation in the process of getting the World Police and Fire Games for Adelaide in 2007 and am looking forward to a continuing involvement in this event over the next several years.
Good luck to all and may you achieve your dreams. See you at the Games.
BR Venning
Sergeant (ret)
