The Police Association and SAPOL sought ratification of the agreement in the South Australia Industrial Relations Commission on September 17, 2001.

The agreement was ratified and SAPOL will now back pay members to the rates listed below. The back pay is an employer responsibility and SAPOL has undertaken to advise members of the arrangements to be put into place in due course.

Any queries relating to back pay should be directed to SAPOL.

These rates represent a 4% increase in wages. An additional increment has also been added to the ranks of senior sergeant, sergeant and senior constable. All senior constables, sergeants and senior sergeants on the existing top increment of their rank will move to the new increment on July 1, 2001, unless they have completed fewer than 12 months’ service at that increment, then they will progress after completing 12 months’ service.

Members will notice that there are still four increments in the rank of sergeant. This is as a result of removing the previous first increment and then adding the additional increment to the top of the sergeant rank. This was done to ensure relativity between the fifth increment rate of senior constable and first increment rate of sergeant. All sergeants who were on the previous increment one rate translate to the new increment one rate on July 1, 2001, and further incremental progression shall be after 12 months. All other sergeants maintain their current increment date. Consequently, sergeants on the previous increment two and three rates move to the new increment one and two rates in the above structure on July 1, 2001, and progress to the next increment on their existing increment date. markcarroll@pasa.asn.au
