Enterprise Agreement Ratification
Members have endorsed Enterprise Agreement 2001 through the recent ballot. The agreement was ratified in the Industrial Relations Commission on September 17 and will expire on June 30, 2003. Where appropriate, new rates and allowances will be backdated to July 1.
The Police Association undertook an 18-month process to complete this third EB agreement. Further negotiations must take place during the life of the agreement. Arrangements to begin these negotiations - some of which will occur within the next three months - are currently underway.
It is a difficult task to negotiate salaries and conditions of employment for more than 3,800 police officers who perform diverse roles and hold varying ranks. But the process showed that, operating within PASA, is an open, robust industrial system. This allows individual and group input, and leaves the final say with the full membership in a democratic process.
I thank the committee of management, delegates, branches, association staff, and, in particular, the secretary and assistant secretary for their efforts on behalf of the members during the EB process.
