Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL effective July 3, 2001.
Yours respectfully

Dear Andy
This is to advise you of my retirement from SAPOL, my last day of service being July 11, 2001.
I thank you and the members of your committee for your tireless efforts in protecting and improving the working conditions for all members of SAPOL. Like the majority of members, I took the Police Association pretty much for granted until a few years ago when I found myself facing criminal charges. The support, encouragement and very practical assistance by way of provision of counsel brought the matter to a rapid and successful conclusion. This incident allowed me to see the association in a different perspective and I will be always grateful for the support shown.
I have enjoyed my time with SAPOL, having served in many and varied postings. The job is made up of characters, one of every conceivable type, welded together by the common bond of getting the job done in the most effective manner. I am proud to have been a part of such a fine team of people. However, the job continues to change, and I am finding it increasingly difficult to change with it, which clearly indicates to me that it is time to go.
To you, Andy, to the members of your committee and to all members of SAPOL, I wish you health, happiness and success in the future, wherever it may take you.
Regards
Jim Whimpress![]()
Dear Peter
Due to my retirement effective Friday, July 13, 2001, I wish to advise of my resignation from the Police Association of SA after almost 42 years.
I thank you and the executive and staff of the association for the professional manner in which all members rights and benefits are protected. It is reassuring for members to operate in an environment with the knowledge that support is forthcoming in times of external, unfair or unfounded attacks.
I thank the vast number of colleagues with whom Ive had the pleasure of working and socializing.
Yours sincerely

Dear Andy
I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association effective from July 16 due to my retirement from the Band of the South Australia Police.
I thank the Police Association, especially yourself, for your efforts not only in helping me when management and I had disagreements but also in assisting the band to achieve a long overdue fair deal for pay and conditions. In 23 years, I have witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly. I remember a band tour to the mid-north of the state in the 1980s when we were mustered on duty at 0800 to perform a one-hour concert after setting up the stage. On completion, we packed up, went to lunch, then performed another one-hour concert after setting up the stage once again in the afternoon.
We packed up once again and had dinner then, once again, set up, performed a two-hour concert, then packed up once again. By this time, it was 2300. We then retired for the night and, when we returned to Adelaide after five days of similar workload, our officer-in-charge at that time informed us that we owed the department four hours for each day we worked, stating that we had an easy time and only worked four hours a day anyway.
On three other occasions, on the last day before the band broke up for Christmas leave, the same officer on each occasion declared that it was likely that the band could fold while we were on leave, but merry Christmas, anyway.
I have enjoyed my time with the band and hope that, one day, the Government and police department will finally realize what the public has always known. The Band of the South Australia Police is one of the finest public relations outfits in the world and, unless it is used to its full potential (think global), you are wasting this excellent resource.
Yours sincerely

Dear Peter
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association due to my resignation from SAPOL, my last day of service being July 18, 2001.
Id like to thank all those I have served with over the past 15 years and wish them all the best for the future. There have been the bad times but, thankfully, they were outnumbered by the good. I will take with me many fond memories.
All the best

Dear Andy
Please accept my resignation from the Police Association. My last day of service will be July 19. I have considered my future over the last 12 months. It is not a decision I have taken lightly after 33 years in the force. I leave to pursue a new and challenging career in real estate sales. The only negative comment I would make at this time is: it is disappointing that very few alternative positions remain in the job for those of us who do not wish to remain patrol officers until we retire.
I thank the many wonderful people I have been fortunate enough to spend quite some time with, some unfortunately are no longer with us. The supervisors, Gary Hassett, Ron Thomas, Kyle Harrison, Bill (William) Teague, Peter Whellum, Jim Tate, Winnie Bachmann, Hank Swalue, Peter Redman and Ashleigh Gore who all showed the same quality of caring about their personnel.
To my many patrol mates from the old region-G days and, later, sector policing. I thank you for the great times and the fond memories. (The names are too numerous to mention, but the escapades Ill never forget.)
The girls from mixed patrols, Gaynor Brook, Ann Yeomans and Bev McKechnie. I would single out two postings for special mention having spent about 10 years at each. The ex-members of team 5 Norwood patrols, Jim Tate, Leanne Bishop, Ian Elliott, Paul and Kirstie Miller, Peter Marchese and Paul Ralphs.
The second group - the ex-members of ORG/ORS, with special mention to Winnie Bachmann, Greg Pill, Viv Savron and Chris Sanders. I still cant believe I was paid to work at the Grand Prix, AFL football, drive-fly around the State, dine with politicians, etc, etc. What great times they were.
I wish everyone all the best for the future and thank all of those who have and are serving on the PASA for the pay and conditions I have enjoyed throughout my career.

Dear Sir
I wish to tender my resignation from the Police Association as of August 3, 2001, that being my last day of service with SAPOL.
I have accepted an offer of employment within the private sector.
The decision to leave SAPOL was a difficult one to make, but I feel that I am making the right choice at this time.
My career has allowed me to develop a vast variety of skills, which I was fortunate to gain through a satisfying career as a police officer.
I formally say thank you and goodbye to everyone I have worked with over the years. I will take with me countless memories of a great career and fantastic friendships.

Dear Andy
I wish to advise you of my resignation from PASA due to my retirement from SAPOL, with my last day of service being August 3, 2001.
After 37 years of service it is with some regret that I do so, although the old body told me it was time to go.
I had a long, happy time in the job serving most of my time in the country, namely Millicent, Bordertown twice, Lameroo, Whyalla and Victor Harbor. I completed my career as a station sergeant at the Christies Beach police station.
To all the people I worked with during this time, thanks for the friendships and the many good memories.
Finally, I thank the PASA for its assistance in the past and its untiring efforts in gaining better working and pay conditions. I had the pleasure of being a delegate for three years and this gave me an insight to the effort put in by the executive members.
Yours sincerely

Please accept my resignation from the Police Association because of my retirement with my last day of service being August 9, 2001.
After some 34 years or so, I can honestly say that the job has been good to me and I achieved all I set out to achieve. I retire with very fond memories of the friendships I made and the support I received because of those friendships. I pass on my appreciation of the tireless work of the association to get better conditions for members.
Just in passing, I make the following comment. Management could perhaps watch the movie Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood. Despite all the new progressive management introduced by the upper level of the US Army, which was portrayed in the movie, it was the dinosaur sergeant who saved the situation through common sense and understanding of his troops... Just a thought.
