Leadfoot |
|
Format: PC
Rating: G8Leadfoot is a highly rated and impressive-looking speedway game developed by Adelaide-based firm, Ratbag.
It is packed with stunning visuals, and has all the sorts of details which go to reproducing an authentic, fast-paced experience of off-road racing.
Pick-up trucks and buggies hurtle around dirt tracks inside giant stadiums - a sort of Supercross on four wheels. The vehicles churn up the ground, kick up dust clouds, and cast realistic-looking shadows on the track.
The stadium stands are jam-packed with fans.
You can adjust the game settings in such a way that the vehicles handle benignly for beginners or realistically for the more advanced.
The tracks have a variety of short and tight layouts with plenty of jumps and other stunt features, as well as the more conventional oval circuits. The result is tight, close racing with plenty of fender barging.
To enjoy a game of Leadfoots sophistication, you need a fairly powerful PC, especially if you want to experience the more intricate details on offer.
You can take any of the vehicles for a quick spin, or enjoy the thrill of a full championship series.
You can pick up prize money along the way, which you can then spend on accessories to enhance your vehicles performance.
Once youre on a winning streak, you can even go one better and approach sponsors to dole out big money so that your team can buy the best parts.
Hostile Waters: Anteaus Rising
Format: PC
Rating: MAHostile Waters is an exciting 3D action-strategy game in which players pit their skills against a group of despots and trigger-happy military top brass who are plotting to destabilize the planet.
It features cutting-edge 3D technology and state-of-the-art graphical environments.
The player must utilize strategic decision-making throughout the 20 different missions, as well as taking on control of the different attack vehicles.
One of these vehicles is the Adaptive Cruiser, which relies on nano-technology. Players have to construct machines in order to prevent dangerous situations from developing.
And how do you win at this game? By exterminating as many of your foes as you can with your weaponry.
Mario Party 3
Format: Nintendo 64
Rating: GMario Party 3 is a collection of 70 all-new mini-games which anybody can play.
You get the same four-player fun found in the previous two games, but with insanely challenging board maps. The games are rated according to different grades of difficulty.
There is a fresh cast of characters to choose from. There are eight playable characters in Battle Royal and Duel Modes, and six characters to choose from in Story Mode.
Among the characters is Daisy from Mario Tennis fame, and also the new Waluigi, a lanky villain who will laugh heartily whenever he manages to one-up his foes.
The objective is to ensure that your character gets across the elaborate 3D game-board ahead of your rivals.
In the new two-player game called Duel Mode, you can hire freelance fighters to attack each other in Paper Mario-style battles.
As always, the best way to experience Mario Party action is to get together with three friends and battle it out to see who comes out on top.
